Looking for a little help please.

Is it wise to game on a laptop? I play some old games already like Red Alert 2 and a few others but is it possible to play newer games? Every now and again when playing, it sounds like the internal fans are kicking in and warm air comes out from the vents. Is this normal or is there something wrong.

Heres the Specs for RAM, Proc and Graphics card. If you need anything else just post and ill get back to you

    AMD Athlon(TM) 64bit 3200+ 2.00 GHz

    64MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) 4 440 Go

    512MB DDR SDRAM (2x256MB)

Cheers in advance for any help

    Jb

I have a similar machine (although I think you've got the better processor) and games work fine - even Doom 3 / HL2 etc.

Excessive playing does seem to heat the system up faster than the fans can handle. I'm not sure its a problem but I would try not to spend hours at a time.

i would,nt worry to much its just the fans reacting to the increase of heat which is picked up by the terminal sensors inside your laptop ...as least your lucky to be able to play games on your laptop ...im a victim of intels Integrated Graphics 32mb ...so ill never get to see HL2 or DOOM3 when im on the move  only problem is that after Continuous extended play and the build up of heat your game might start lagging ..just make sure the fan vents are clear when you playing :D

Yeah, like the lads said, you should be able to play games no problem. Im like dubdvd though, crippled by an Xtreme (ha what a joke) intel graphics chipset. My gaming pleasure on the lappy extends to Civ3 and Fm2005. PES4 runs playably well as does DoW, but after that, no joy. KOTOR (1 or 2) wont run on mine which is my biggest gripe. If only you could upgrade those bloody intel chipsets.

Anyway, your laptop should run those graphics intensive titles fairly well but there are plenty of other (graphics-lite) games out there that will run no problem. Enjoy.

Cheers for all the help, had great fun with Cs:s today, my desktop is sick at the minute and I thought I could live without gaming for a few weeks, didnt work out too well as you can see.
