Building a new house soon and I want to encorporate a network. I know a few have mentioned they will be doing the same. My question is where did you ghet the best deal on the cables, what type(cat 5,5e or 6) and also where did you get the various components. i am particlarly interested in the socket in each room. I want to put a network, phone and tv connection in each.

Cable and sockets can be got from any electrical retailers. Normally all the cables are brought back to one point and terminated in to a patch panel. They tend to be very expensive for some reason but they may have come down in price since the last time I priced em.

Do you plan to do the wireing your self?

Also use network cables for your phone points, this will give you more flexibality into the future.

Also wire all cables back to one point, possibly the hot press.

No point getting Cat 5 so get 5e or Cat 6.

Cat 6 is expensive and dificult to crimp properly (to a standard where it will pass a Cat 6 cable test) unless tou have experience.

I have a fair idea of wiring it back to a central point. However I am wondering about suppliers, online or standard, if people had any preference.

Shop around, open the yellow pages under electrical suppliers and ring em.

Cable normally come in boxes of 305m (1000 feet). I bought Shielded Cat 5e a few weeks ago for €100 so regualr 5e should be a good bit cheaper.
