If im right, you've screwed your moboard. Well at least the CMOS Chip. It can't make since of anything now I believe so i think you'll have to replace the chip. Could be wrong though but thats my understanding

Moved because it's not a windows problem anymore.

And the real kicker is that if you replace the motherboard you'll have to go through XP reactivation.

Do you have a copy of the previous BIOS ?
Does your motherboard have a jumper for BIOS recovery?

There are some company in the UK I think that can fix/change bios chips. Try googling it. It may be a cheaper option that getting a new mobo.

Can you not reset the bios by ripping out the battery?

Yes you can but this won't solve the problem here as this is not a wrong setting, its a ****ed chip. Resetting will do nothign what so ever because theres nothing to reset, the chip is damaged. Can't make anymore since

I had a similar prob a while back. Corrupt bios download.

Anyway, my mobo did the same thing but the floppy drive would continually spinup, as if searching/accessing a disk. A bit of research and I found that it was a fail-safe feature of the mobo....AMI bios feature. It was a Microstar board (modal escapes me)

Anyway, all I had to do was redownload the bios, rename the bin file "AMIBOOT.ROM", copy to floppy, insert and reboot. It re-flashed the board and it was fine. All down to a bad download.

Have a read here.

Also, just remembered.
If you have ANY usb devices including mouse/keyboard plug them out and see if that makes a difference. I had that prob on a gateway once.
Good luck.

hello the edge,

its an AMI bios alright and i can do that but when i look for the bios files on the site i get the following file A6758ims.140 and not a .bin file.

When i pop it in it still doesnt post..

What else did you do or how did u get the exact bios file download :

the board is: 875P NEO - FIS2R , i dont believe the board is knackered as i have same problem as you i followed the instructions to press ctrl-home and it goes access the floppy however i am unsure as to whats going wrong!

anything else u remember let me know did the bios file look like the one i have attached

Hey marrakesh,
Looks like maybe you used the wrong BIOS
If you read the small note on the link you provided above, see it says:

Note: 1.x ~ 2.x BIOS cannot be used on 875P Neo-FISR (MS-6758 PCBv2)
.

Which is your board right?
Your board is just one above it in the list.

Download the correct BIOS and unzip. Rename the file A6758IMS.360 to AMIBOOT.ROM and try that with ctrl-home.
Make sure your windows file extensions are not hidden in explorer before you try renaming the file. (Tools/Folder Options/View/Hide Extensions for known file types)

I remember it took a bit longer to flash the board this way. Maybe 5mins.
Good luck.

FWIW www.badflash.com worked fine for me. New chip came in the post less than one week after ordering

You are trying to download a file for it, but I understood that when you turn the computer nothing happens. How will you get an interface to boot floppy from then? I amn't quite sure what you mean when you say its correct. When you said it beeps four times, does this still happen as if this is the case, theres good chance the chip ok, that it might be just a fluke technical problem that occured. Check your manual on the board for the POST beeps, see what it says for the beeps you are hearing if it's still beeping?

Hope you get it sorted, fustrating alright :)

Hi Webmonkey,

the MSI mb(AMI bios) has a special feature that looks for a particular file after users use CTRL-HOME on boot..

Its a failsafe so that when things go wrong like this one can recover the BIOS settings / bios details

Hmmmm, still haveing probs marrakesh.
Try this file.....it's the original BIOS (875P Neo-LSR/FIS2R) you posted renamed here my end. Worth a shot. It should be just the rom file on the floppy....nothing else.

The PCB1/PCB2 bit is usually written along the edge of the mobo. Hard to tell without looking. Can be hard to spot sometimes. The manual should have it if you have one.

I remember it seemed like an age before the update process kicked in for me.
Again, make sure there's only the k/board and mouse, hell just the k/board, is plugged in.
Fingers crossed.
