Knoppix - USB Interface

My Windows XP has recently crashed and looks unrecoverable.

I'm trying to get a hold of my data files and someone recommended Knoppix 3.7 as an alternative boot up operating system. This has worked well and I can see the files but I can't copy them on to my USB stick because Knoppix doesn't seem to see USB.

I'm probably doing something very simple wrong. Anyone any ideas?

hmmm :: had the same problem myself with knoppix and a usb key. It picked up the key but wouldn't let me write to it.

only work around i had was a network cable and a mates laptop :|

    sorry.

Thanks ! I'm gathering this USB is quite a big issue from reading around!

Linux isn't too user friendly but maybe is more versatile from what I see. Perhaps I need to know Unix?

Do what I did. Knoppix has samba, so share the drive, then login from another windows PC on the network and copy away.

And I have practically zero knowledge of linux.
