Munster V. Biarritz

Munster played as 2 different teams today, the first half was lacklustre and cost them the match, the second half was a different story, did us proud. They played the way i think the national team should play, quick ruck ball and flat passes from the scrum-half allowing us to put other teams on teh backfoot.

    Problems arose however:

Burke's no O'Gara, he still did amicably.
No creation in the backline, Payne and Horgan were the only ones who adjusted lines as they took the ball.
Stringer can now spot breaks but cant make them, needs some creatine/growth hormones/Protein.

    Fantastic displays from:
O'Callaghan - will we have 3 Lions Second Rows? after this display i can see it happen.
Marcus Horan - Lets just forget being a prop, lets stick him on the wing or at Full-back, wouldv'e beat some of the french backline with that pace.
Shaun Payne - this guy has raw talent, needs to be refined.
Stringer's passing - was excellent, didn't have a great game but his passing was amazing, flat, drew players on to the ball and gave a decent platform to break the line.
David Wallace - Strength, speed, brains and passion, this guy wants to play the best rubgy he can.

I was dissapointed with Quinlan's display, i rate him higher than Leamy, but all he seemed to do was give away stupid penalties.
Also dissapointed with Stringer, if we told him just to pass he'd be fine, let him have a one-dimensional game, it works sometimes, his kicking and breaking was poor, should've just stuck to what he knew best.

That's a pretty good summary Emmet, and after yesterday's spineless Leinster performance it was great to see an Irish time refuse to be pushed around and instead take the game to their opponents.

once again today proved that loose quick rugby is the way to go. Even though its risky it was the only way that Munster could get any go forward ball.
O'Callaghan was class. Pure aggsession. We need him in the Irish team. Id rate him much higher than O'Kelly.
Horan was a revelation. Allways looking for the offload and fantastic pace. Even though his scrummaging is a bit dodgy(can be worked on) his intellegence and pure skill is god given. Also hes a million times better than crappy Reggie Corrigan who has none of the skills Horan demonstrated today.

A bit off the point but I was at the Leinster game yesterday. Biggest waste of 5 euro ever.

woo there. I think we must of being watching a completely different game.

Stringer size doesnt make a difference to making a break, so creatine etc wont make a blind bit of difference. Sure look at other scrum-half who can make breaks, there hardly tanks.

This was the worst ever display by stringer aswell, it was brutal. The amount of passes that hit the ground before reaching the first player was shocking. If i had never seen him play before i would of sworn they just grabbed him from the supporters section and asked him to play.

His kicking as you point out was disappointing aswell. Also, i am really getting sick of his whinging. Hes an awfully moany little ****er. Throws his toys out of the pram whenever a decision goes against him.

Wasnt the greates fan of Payne either. In the second half when we let it out wide, he was near the touchline and he just flung it at horgan. Horgan was already nearly standing in touch, he should of taken the tackle and receyled it. Also for the penalty in the second half which killed it off.

Why didnt he just pass it too henderson?! he had the chance when the first man tackled him.

If someone had yanked horan aside when he as younger and turned him into a hooker it would of been the best decision ever.

Several choices and ya i agree. Adding a cutting edge to behind the pack would be nice.Easterby/Striinger tend to get isolated but looking on the bright side i think this was a smack in the mouth to EOS about Wallace/Horan/Quinlan/O'Callaghan/Sheahan also Jennings would be sweet as an impact player. Gutted about Munster but next season needs to be one of rebuilding.

Gutted after todays match, I used to be a big fan of Stringers but today every time he had the ball I was afraid he was going to cause a turnover. Still for a few passages of play his passing really came off.

Most annoying thing today was Ryle Nugent's commentary and interviews.

    nugent_sm.jpg

The guy knows sweet **** all about rugby but up until this point he's remained relatively stomachable but today I thought he was insulting to the players on the field and really talking out his hole. I really think the guy has no opinions for himself and is only repeating what he's heard elsewhere in the media or whatever's fashionable to be spouting currently. I was hoping Paul O'Connell would deck the stupid ****er after the match.

Very dissapointed with the result. Munster only really got going in the second half. I agree about Stringer. STOP with the stupid breaks! Who care's if he's one dimensional as long as his passing is good? Only real issue for me about the match was Biarritz's try. How on earth could they have got that ball back legally??

  • stringer had a poor game outside of passing, i felt that his passes from rucks in the second half were very important to us being op the front foot, he passed flat and drew players on, i'm aware that most, if not all scrum-hlafs can do this but i thought he did it well today, his kicking was poor and breaking shouldn't even be talked about any longer but he was throwing passes the way he was 4 years ago when nobody was questioning the rest of his game.

If you can call that a rugby game. My point was that it was a very bad half hearted display by Leinster. They were never in it and did not seam to show any drive to win the game. Complete opposite to Munster today. Leinster were a disaster if you consider that they were top seeds.
