Can anyone reccomend a cheap shipping company that does international shipping? I just won an Ampeg Vt-22 from Ebay. But the lowest shipping cost the guy can find for it is 250$ and the amp only cost 200$. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Is it an amp head or combo. Ampeg amps are extremely heavy. It not going to be cheap getting it here....

Its a combo. I realise it won't be cheap but I thought 250 was a bit excessive.

Cheapest courier shipping service in Ireland is SDS, but I think they only deliver out of Ireland. Check SDS.ie anyway. After that, I think Fedex is generally the cheapest of the courier services. Fedex.com. Fedex will probably nail you for customs though. They generally send a bill several weeks later.

Go to the Ampeg site and get the shipping weight of the amp. Check the shipping rates on USPS.com (United States Postal Service). USPS Air Parcel Post is reasonably reliable, and as cheap as you will get. Re customs, usually you get away with items from private sellers, but I don't know about such a big package. The USPS carrier in Ireland is GLS, who basically have a policy of demanding the VAT and duties on delivery - they only take cash and they won't issue change.

Amps are very very heavy. Tbh, I'm not surprised at that cost. Despite the dollar/euro disparity, it is generally cheaper to buy heavy items in Europe, just on the shipping costs.
