'Bluetooth' is written all over mobile phone brochures... But what's the difference between it and Infrared? Is it just like Infrared but with a longer range?

It's a wireless, non line of sight (NLOS), low bandwidth, low power, personal area networking technology (PAN) for transferring data between other bluetooth equiped devices.

Use if for backing up phone data (pix, music, SMS etc) to a pc or printer, playing games with strangers on buses and identity theft (ask Paris Hilton).

Frankly if you don't yet know what it is you probably wouldn't use it.

It is also, as all fearers of mobile phones and wireless know, a hideous lethal death ray.
