Hi, can anyone help? My heating has stopped working - I've pushed the red button on the burner but it just won't fire. Any help appreciated.

Does it make a noise after you press the button, like a fan turning.

Yes, but then it dies out before catching

    Hi Skye,

It sounds like it could be air locked, did you run out of oil recently ?

The burner might need bleeding to get the oil up the pipe.

Almost was empty - got a refill today - can I fix this myself?

Did it run out of Oil. If so you would need to bleed it. A bit tricky if you never done it.

Think it was empty - should I call a pro?

    Hi Skye,

Sometimes these are easy to bleed the danger is if you turn the wrong screw you could change the settings like the air intake.

Maybe if you know the type of burner you have it could be easy to describe the way to do it.

Ok, this is what's on it:

    GERKOS GEM
    Superior 95
    95,000 B.T.U
    Domestic Heating Boiler

    RIELLO BURNERS.

    Any help?

Could be any of the following:

    Airlocked, blocked filter or nozzle

Blocked / obstructed air supply / damper

Dirty photocell / dodgy control box

Sounds like you have an airlock in the fuel line from the tank to the burner. If I were you I would call the guy who delivered the oil and ask him where is the bleed screw on the burner. Take off metal cover on the burner and you should see two hex head screws labelled P and V. one of these is the bleeder so ask the oil guy which one, then you just open it to fuel comes out and you are back in business.

    Hi Shye,

There are differences in each burner for example on my one you remove the cover and turn a long hex shaped bar to loosen it and push the start button to purge the line of air.

There are times when it is best to call the service man, it might be only a few minutes to do the job but at least it's done properly.

You could use this chance to have the boiler serviced to run at optimum level saving you money in the long term.
