Resuming a failed firefox download

    I've got a 700Mb download that froze about 50Mb short of completion. I made a backup of the .part file, but I can't get firefox to continue downloading. It keeps deleting the file and starting from scratch. I know there are plenty of extensions and downloading managers that support download resuming, but is there any that can take a partially downloaded file and finish it off? Or is there anyway I can get firefox to finish the job?

    i dont think its the software that you want for supporting resume. I think its the server you are downloading from that needs to support resume, some dont. Im not sure though, anyone else?

    I'm not sure how Firefox saves downloads. If it starts downloading from the start nd keeps going to the end, then you'd have the first 50MB of the file. In that case you're in luck. wget is a very handy non-interactive commandline tool that can resume downloading. I think wget starts downloading from the start of the file (not sure on this, but the messages it gives me when I resume hint at that), so you could just get wget to resume the firefox download.

    had it happen to me plenty of times so niw I always use Flashget with the flashgot extension for FF. Works a charm

    dunno if this wud work but try redownloading and pausing it when u see the new .part file, then just replace the new with the old 1 u saved and see if it continues the old 1. dont hav a clue if it wud work but its worth a try

    can you explain this a little? do i download flashget, flashgot or both?

    i just read somewhere that flashget has got spyware.

    Yes, Flashget has spyware, that's why I use Reget or Getright

    download flashgot extension for mozilla, it will work(detect) with all popular download managers

    Shíte, didn't know Flashget has spyware. I used to use Getright but it always corrupted downloads. Downloading say a 2Gb ISO only to find it fails a checksum is no fun. Will have to check out this Reget

    You'd have to know exactly where to stop it. To the byte. That would be difficult. wget would be easier.
