I was checking my paycheque there and I wasn't paid for Good Friday. I am working on a temporary basis. I checked the Government website and Good Friday is not stipulated as a public holiday. The office was closed on Good Friday so I couldn't of worked even if I wanted to! Does anyone know if I am entitled to the days wages? Ta.

No, but you were entitled to a least a month's notice in advance that Good Friday would be a mandatory holiday.

i don't think you are. same as if the office is only open mon-fri, you don't get paid sat and sun even if you wanted to work those days.... it's a bank holiday and not a public holiday, although a lot of places close on this day, yet others don't.

Thanks for that. Bank Holidays are part of Public Hoildays. Good Friday is not a public holiday. Boohoo. They never told us.

You're not entitled to diddly squat, unless of course you work for a bank or a banking institution. They have to tell you 2 weeks in advance whether or not you're going to work a Public holiday, which they can demand you work in lieu of holidays/increased pay. I'd imagine Good Friday isnt subjected to the same stipulations as this as it is only a bank holiday. It was the managers/owners choice to close, if you dont get paid I'd say it's bad form.

I feel your pain. I am a temp as well I found out Thursday when I got paid. That I didn't get paid for the bank holiday. That really hurt considering rent is due and food needed to be purchased. I guess it is is living on supernoodles and cheese sandwiches this week. Or max-ing the credit card YET AGAIN!

in that case wouldn't they have to take one of his holidays... not just drop his pay ?
