Abit AV8 is not compatible with Winchester CPU's unless you flash to latest BIOS. This holds even for the latest version of the mobo 1.1 that I have. Can't flash though when the rig doesn't POST and is stuck in code 9.0.

Awful business and widely reported on the interweb :(

Would be much obliged if you could help me out. The problem is solved when I would install a Newcastle and then flash the BIOS and stick my Winchester back in. Needless to say, I'll collect from wherever you are in the Dublin area and return in the same state. Should anything go wrong, I'll make sure that you will be more than compensated :)

    I don't have one.....sorry.... but....if it helps others decide.....

I would give unkel a loan of my A64 if I had one. He knows his stuff and seems like a decent chap.

After Abit were convinced this was the problem, they started manually flashing the BIOS of all outgoing motherboards. You obviously have one of these. I have one of the ones that shipped without being flashed to a BIOS that supports the winnie :)

    Very embarassing for Abit methinks...
