Yeh, but can you really see Larsson doing as well in the Premier League? I mean, yea he's good, but I doubt he'd hit 10 a season outside of Scotland, never mind 40.

Anyway...

you can still count em on one hand.
i have no problem with celtic winning the league. fair balls to them. they were the best there, even if without larsen they are nothing.
however, i love the sudden patriotism of people who rank about the bhoys and the celts when, a)theyve never been to park head, b)they hate scotish people, c)the only connection is that celtic was founded by irish people about 110 years ago....
i just find it very confusing. i mean, if you are going to support ****e football, why not go to a league of ireland match? at least youd be supporting your own, AND putting your money into the irish economy.
just interesting....
anyway, we all know that celtic will get knocked out in the champions league prelims anyway.

I was just surprised that seen as you are so knowledgable about scottish football you didn't know who won it in 97/98,after all,it was reasonably big news to football fans, and to Celtic fans in particular seen as it stopped rangers from winning 10 in a row.

Patriotism? Sorry mate, this is club football.
I presume that if/when people post to this board about other sides you also go off on one and start talking about misled "patriotism",say regarding Liverpool or Man Utd? To say the only connection that Ireland has with Celtic was its foundation by an Irish priest isn't very fair.Very many irish players have donned the celtic shirt shirt, including some of the most fondly remembered such as Cascarino(formerly fondly thought of wink.gif),Brady(managed, badly) and Bonner(all time great),not to mention numerous lesser known ones, particularly during Celtic's dark times of financial disaster. As for hating scottish people,I don't know what to make of that statement, and unless you think that the people who have posted to this thread so far are of that mindset you should have left that out.

Well taking myself as an example,I'm not really near any League of Ireland club of note. And don't bother likening scottish football to league of Ireland, last I heard no league of Ireland club paid 6 million or 12 million for any player, nor had any internationals I've heard of,despite maybe some Azerbajanii who works in a factory in finglas from 9-5 every weekday.Celtic have good players, who play good football. The fact that the majority of opposition isn't very good is undeniable, but don't state that there'd be no difference between watching Celtic v Rangers(or Celtic V hibs or Hearts) and watching Sligo Town versus Finn Harps. The general standard of Irish football is dire. This has deep roots, most notably the rape of young irish talent by British clubs.Don't talk to me about it smile.gif
I'd support my own no problem, but its a ****e spectacle in general, and I can think of better ways to spend an evening than travelling x amount of miles to watch some bunch of willing but very average bunch of cloggers chase a ball round a muddy pitch in an almost derelict stadium. If people enjoyed it,they might go.People don't.

Maybe. But if they don't I'll be back here to remind you smile.gif
No need to deliberately antagonise fans of a club who are genuinely happy that their chosen team has won the league. Maybe you could start up a new thread about how we should all support league of Ireland teams and put money into our own economy, it might channel that negativity constructively.

i think you have taken me up wrong bugler.
i have no problems with celtic fans. i have no problem with scotish football (cept its crap) and i have no problem with celtic winning the treble.
my problem lies with irish people who only pop up after a win aagainst rangers etc etc etc.
im sure utd fans will recognise this straight away as a lot of people started supporting man utd after they won the treble.
the only reason i would shout for rangers rather than celtic is that i used to get slagged about being a protestant, and thats it. i have no preference in scotish football.
oh, and the thing that annoys me most is the poeple who hate rangers because they are 'hun' and proddys etc etc etc, and then on saturday shout on their utd's and liverpools and other english clubs from their armchairs.....
dont know, maybe you cant see my point.
its nothing to do with football, its a problem with hypocracy that i have, and most of these people cant even see it....

Well I can understand your problems with the kind of idiots you describe, and we all know of.The type that turn into IRA supporters etc after a few too many, and wear this facade for aslong as it suits them. However my problem with what you have posted is that it wasn't aimed at the minority(and I do believe they are in the minority) but at all Celtic fans.Such sarcasm laden posts about Celtics ability or lack thereof won't make your average Celtic fan anymore fond of you. It just seems begrudging to those of us who are well behaved and well meaning to post like this when you seem to be motivated by a dislike of a few,or personal experience. Don't tar us all with the same brush.
And besides,a very large amount of scottish Celtic fans are protestants, and always have been, and many players too.I have a good friend who is a protestant, and he is a big Celtic fan, don't let a small group of half-wits turn you against the whole club.

once again, i have nothing agianst celtic.
and you know im not talking about people who are 'real' supporters.
its the woodworm im talking about.
anyway, 99% of people will agree wiht me that scotish football is crap.
most of the will support celtic.
for what reason im not sure, and they wont give you one either. mostly its just because they dont like rangers. and they dont have a reason for that. i can stand any point, as long as you can back up an argument for your point. not directed at you, just to most of the celtic fans i know, wqho probably actually couldnt name anyone other than larsen in the squad. in fact the only other player i know is vega, and thats coz he went from spurs, who i support!
i could probably name 3 rangers players fo rthat matter, and thats at a push....

good to c Celtic win, dislike it when one team becomes to dominant, been supporting aberdeen for the last 6-7 years, not been too much fun

Didn't Larsson come from an english club?(Blackburn i think)
and I don't think he did particularly well there(could be wrong)

The Scottish league is fun, but quality compared to the premier league is low, look at how Gascoigne was able to dominate, yet he hasn't played at all well for many years, hooijdoink failed to impress too, Viduka's having a torrid time of late(tho it may improve)

and others, Jess of aberdeen, billy McKinley, collins hasn't done that well either.

The gulf is enormous, which pains me as I'm half scots, half Irish, but the premier league is light years ahead of them, a leauge of britain would be interesting tho.....

supporting aberdeen, now thats tough....
as for viduka not impressing, hmm, you miss his 4 goals against liverpool? or his european goals. leeds just have an abundance of great forwards at the moment, so sometimes players are in top form but just dont get the run out.
for me hooijdoink was a bit of a collymore. promised a lot and very rarely delivered after a good start..
i dont think that celtic and rangers are that far behind the premier league., but the rest of the scottish league would have trouble in division 1 i think.....
and yes, i agree that haveing one team dominate a league can get very boring.
the same can be said for man utd. everyone says the hate them, but really, it just gets boring when you know youre going to play utd, and you know that somehow they will win, even if your top team is out and youre playing brilliant football. thats just the way it is....boring.
the better and more exciting stuff for me at the moment is not watching my own team spurs struggle in mid table, but watching ipswich, liverpool, sunderland, leeds and arsenal battle for the remaining champions league places...

Ugh?! No.Larsson came from Feyenoord. He was always regarded as a good player.People can talk about how crap the football is and all that, but the fact is that Larsson produces in europe aswell as on the domestic front.

The Scottish league is fun, but quality compared to the premier league is low, look at how Gascoigne was able to dominate, yet he hasn't played at all well for many years, hooijdoink failed to impress too, Viduka's having a torrid time of late(tho it may improve)
Ach! Viduka has been in fine form.Hooijdoink was also good, but his farting off on Notts forest soiled his career.Gascoigne hardly established his reputation with Rangers. He went from Spurs to the glamour of Serie A after all.Lately he's just a joke. Its not that scottish football has rendered him unable for Premiership football, more like he himself has rendered it impossible.

the premier league is light years ahead of them, a leauge of britain would be interesting tho.....
I often smirk when I hear how far behind the SPL is,considering Man Utd's dominance it the F.A Premiership in recent yrs that argument has lost alot of substance.
You could say that the SPL is a 2 horse race While the FA Prem is a 1 horse race tongue.gif.
No denying the average team is worse though.

i never posted anything that belittled or said they were ****. i said it was a crap league. and the fact that they won it twice in 10 years wasnt exactly great.
if i thought scotish football was bad, then you dont want to hear my opinions on irish football.....
anyway, the reason i first posted was because everyone said hey brillaint, back where we deserve (is it true?) isnt that like utd fans saying we deserve to win the champions league because...were utd?
and the fact that castor troy and i know each other well so hes just posting to annoy me. the rest was just defending the fact that i dont think the celtic are the best team in the league. blackburn won the league in 96(?) because utd made a balls up.
however, im afraid i cant continue anymore as you dont seem to hear what im saying.
i dont care who wins the league in scotland.
as i said before the whole issue with me supporting rangers is a joke based purely on the fact that im protestant. if that were really the ase i wouldnt support a jewish club in spurs, would i?
my other point was that i hate the hypocrasy of 'celtic' supporters who pop out of the woodwork when celtic beat rangers or, god forbid, they win the league. then we hear how they deserve to win the league becasue they are celtic, not for any other reason really. these are people who couldnt give a toss about the club for the rest of the year..
tell me if im wrong. arent there a lot of these people around? if not, i think ive met everyone of the bas7ards in ireland!!!

well, im of to holland to the rest of the jaffas, have a nice week and i'll try and bring back some sunshine to warm all your co<kels

Bah.Me thinks the ****ers he speaks of have soiled his mind and opinions.Oh well...
I don't think you should overanalyse people saying that their team deserved to win it or is back where they belong.Jesus, when watching football matches in the pub with a few friends we talk horrendous amounts of Bullsh*t.No one attempts to mount a quasi-political debate out of it either.

Either way,I still say its a bit of a "Bah Humbug" attitude, brought on by your negative experiences with Celtic "fans" in the past.

just on a side note, what reaction would i get if rangers hd won the league again and id said yippee, take it celtic, we deserve to win (which is proabably true anyway) etc etc etc
i bet you wouldnt get a 'quasi-political' debate on it. anyway, its nota political debate. its about religion, not football.

I can't speak for others, but I know I probably wouldn't reply to such a thread, but go and sulk quietly in the corner.Plus Rangers were so bad this year they wouldn't have deserved(nor been capable enough smile.gif) to win the FAI League.

Errr, don't know where to go from here.I'm agnostic bordering on the atheist hehe, and I'm big Celtic fan.so its definetly not about religion for me.I sometimes feel too many take the religion bait too readily.
