    Hi

I Was looking at the Lidl, Targa HDR5000 but this only records on DVD-R(W) and does not play DIVX. I have the Targa recorder without the hard drive and this plays and records both flavours of DVDs as well as playing the Divx. I use the DVD+R discs on this and on my computer DVD RW drive and dont want to have two different types of DVD media hanging about.

Any reccomendations for a good DVD recorder with HD that uses DVD+R and plays DIVX.

    Thanks

    Ferret

daveg: Have you tried this Liteon? From the specs its seems to be fairly okay. Don't know the technicalities of TV tuners tho'. Will it tune to all NTL's regular cable stations (ie Rte's, BBC's etc.) I saw a note in LIDL last week that one of their machines sold earlier this month had a problem tuning to RTE1 and 2. Don't want to go down the road and find out this later! Thanks

If you download the manual for the LITEON, there's no real information regarding the tuner except that it describes the antenna input and output as the "VHF/UHF IN/OUT JACKS", so you may be lucky.

It says the DHR5000 (not HDR5000, but I assume it's the same one!) has a VHF, UHF, CATV, Hyper Band tuner. Looks like it will be OK then :) I'm tempted I must admit.

The liteon doesnt play divx. My liteon 5006 has no problem with NTL. Oddly when I stick a "coathanger ariel" in it it picks up all the NTL stations but none well, including the Irish ones (picks them up twice but still poorly), with cable the reception is grand

    sorry to hiject the thread.

wondering if any of these (or indeed other dvd recorders) have any method to get hooked up to programming guides like a sky+ or ntl digital box has ?

    Check this link, demosuzki:

It has an EPG, though requires a broadband connection. Not sure how it'll fare with a digital SetTop Box though.

I stuck this up a while back.

I bought the 1001 Plus model. It has no burner , but the hard drive is removeable so you can copy a DVd to the HD and bring it to your PC where you Copy it. They are listed at 389 on pixmania, but they have a buy it now option on ebay at 250 euro, i bougth two, one at 201 and one at 250 combined cost inc postage 501 euro .
you dont get the HD with them, but for about 80 euro you'd have 80 to 120 GB in it.
Plays DIVX (the TV tuner is stero older models were only mono) drives its own 5.1 sound has one scart in/out and two composite in and 2 x out, HDTV, rewind live tv etc. (USB 2 there too)
I got one last week, waiting for the HD to arrive in now. I think they are very good value, I dont mind there not being a DVD burner, I prefer using the software on my PC to burn and edit the stuff anyway.
The manual is in english , even though most sites are german/french. You may need to look at the freq range on the tuner though, I'm using NTL dig tuner on it so I'm not bothered but sometimes all the stations dont come in on the range they give you ( targa are known to do this too). I'll keep you informed if you want to see how well it works, slight problem with them not supplying another tray for the portable HD.

I have the Liteon recorder. Works great. I connect my freeview box through the scart connector, I assume the same would be done with Sky etc. I can set the timer on my freeview box to change the channel for recording etc. Be warned, that when you burn disks from this recorder they can't just be stuck in a dvd drive and played, as I found out... You have to play them back on the unit.

My 5006 dvds play back in all the dvd player I have tried, that is 4 players, one wouldnt play dvd+rw but did a dvd-r

Have you tried a normal copied dvd-r (copy of a film done on a pc) in that player? it may have an issue with any copied discs
