How to open a .dbx file?

    Hey Im trying to open an old email I have on back up cd, outlook express wont give me the option of importing it so I need some software to open it, or any ideas would be appreciated.

    I think the dbx is the 'index' file for the express e-mail database - you're probably missing the actual data file - or vice-versa - you're missing the index file.

    AFAIK, you'll need both.

    .dbx is the outlook express archive format.
    try here for a reader, or google should turn up some more ideas.

    As far as i remember, you can just import it into Outlook. File -> Import -> Emails (or something like that).

    Then browse to the directory where that file is.

    Alternatively, go to the directory where the current DBX file is, copy it out, and replace it with the old one. The OE will read the old emails when it starts up.

    I found the handiest way to back up emails was to open OE, and select all the emails, and then drag and drop them into a folder. They get saved as .eml files.
