Anyone know of a book in paperback/hardback which basically discusses different viruses ,their techniques and code examples.

I'm aware of 40hex and other e-zines but am looking for a paperback book.

    thanks in advance

I have a book called "Security in computing" (Charles P. Pfleeger) which discusses various virus techniques. Probably a little out of date. I don't know of a book that focuses specifically on viruses, but I've never thought to look for one.

Here are two ones that I have had cause to reference at some time. I've added in a one line comment, which is from memory so it might not be totally accurate.

    1. "A Pathology of Computer Viruses", Ferbrache
Fairly technical, good for all the core principles and covers coding issues.

    2. "Computer Virus Handbook", Harold Joseph Highland
All the basics and I think some stuff on formulating anti-virus policies.

These books are probably out of date in some respects but may serve your purpose.

The best policy on viruses is not to run them wink.gif

It would be nice to see a port of tripwire or aide to windows to help in identifying when your critical files have been modified.
Would paperback books actually tell you anything the e-zines wouldn't?

probably not ... but the books are just easier cause they have Indexs :-) and generally go into slightly more detail ... just look at it from a different angle.

It's the same with all books about computers ... one is never enough, not trying to be humourise ( god knows I can't )
but more sources give you wider view.

e-zine will be more up-to-date of course. but if you can afford £225 ( I'd laugh but I've seen higher prices on lesser books ) Have a copy of that in the office somewhere ... ****ing heavy book.
