Windows XP home repair

My PC has XP home but the operating system won't start up. I'm not so experienced with this kind of thing but I can usually fix XP using the boot-up CD. This time I can't get to the usual "repair" or "install fresh copy" options.

Instead I get prompted to "set up on selected partitions "--
"create partition" or "delete partition". This for me is unknown territory and I don't want to try it, and lose everything !!

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong - I've several boot up CDs and the same result with all?
