Dell delivery time

I ordered a laptop from Dell 9100 model on 14th March. The expected delivery date was 24/03 which was fine at 7 business days. Now the online checker tells me that my new delivery date is 4th April-another 7 business days later. This concerns me especially as the 9100 model seems to have been dropped by Dell a few days ago. It was for my wife it was as it was her birthday on 28/03 and of course it hadn't arrived so no brownie points for me.
3 weeks seems a long time imo.
What delivery times have others encountered from Dell?

Told two weeks - online said it was dispatched after 8 days - 2 days later got new delivery date - online dispatch changed twice - arrived after 3.5 weeks.

    Very dodgy from Dell.

Ordered the 9300 about 3 and a half weeks ago. Was told that it would be about 10 working days. Still haven't got it.
Rang them last week. They said that it was cancelled, reordered, cancelled again and then finally reordered again on their system...by accident.

They took the money lively enough though.

    Feckin' backstards.

Well ring them up then and demand to be compensated!!

    Check out this thread!http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=2544799&postcount=30

If I were u i would cancel the 9100 pronto, the machine is out of date and get the 9200 or the 9300 (Id go for the 9300 as its the latest one out with the latest motherboard)

The price difference wouldnt be that much as far as i know, haggle with them over the phone!!

Well I thought dell delivery was excellent, the estimated time of delivery was 28 april coming which was bout a month after i ordered but in fact it came only four days after i ordered, im on it right now ;)

When I ordered my dell laptop i was waiting 3 weeks for it to arrive. I was meant to arrive in 8 days but when i rang Dell they told me to get on to Interlink because the laptop had left limerick, but when i rang Interlink they told me they had'nt received the box and that i had'nt a consienment no. which dell refused to give me. So the I got on to the sales person in bray and they sorted it out for me, i got it 3 days after the call. And it was a computer fault according to the sales person.
For a company who manufactures PC's would'nt you think there computer system would be fail safe.
BTW. they were quick in taking the money.

You can check the status of you machine build online - Dell should have emailed you link when you placed the order.

I bought a 9200 about four weeks a back & it arrived the day before it was due - one happy customer :D

As jank mentioned, the 9300 has just come out & that supercedes the 9200, so I'd grumble sufficiently to get a free upgrade from them if I was you

I had a very similar experience to this a few weeks back. I ordered an Insp 8500 on the outlet site. Now this was a discontinued model and I was told it had to be sent to the factory to be tested. I was quoted about 10 days till ship.Fine i thought.
Eventually shipped after 14 days. Or so i was told. Interlink delivered a backpack (which was fee offer at the time) but no lappy!
Got on to them and they said their was some kind of mistake at dell. Phoned dell. Nope, item shipped...
    WTF?
Eventually dell admit they're at fault and that they've lost the computer lol. Sales rep says they're gonna send a replacement with similar or better specs.
3 days later I get an 8600c with better specs than the 8500...and another free backpack :D

All in all I was pissed at them for screwing up but they made up for it and then some.

Oh and to the OP: as others have mentioned cancel the 9100. It's been superseded. Twice.
As a present for your wife, I'd hope you included a set of dumbells to get her in training for carrying the 9100. It's a heavy fcuker.
    Good performer though.
If your heart is set on it then at least try dell outlet, but I'd say go fr something a little more petite...

    Good luck with your purchase...

Heavy is right I have one, granted it spends more time on the table and is more space saving than a full desktop, but i got pissed off when 2 weeks later they had a 9200 then changed that to a 9300 which again is better

Yeah I know its a heavy one but its main purpose is as a desktop replacement and I figured ifs its heavy it will just be left in one place (ie kitchen table) most of the time and won't be at a high risk of being dropped or left behind anywhere. Its performance spec was good and that was my main concern.

Anyway I telephoned Dell as Jank suggested and they did offer me a 10% discount so I have accepted that and will wait until the current expected delivery date of 06/04/05 and if it doesn't arrive then I will seek a newer machine. One thing though was that they offered me the 10% discount without any arguing or even real discussion -so now I think I could have pressed for a higher discount if I hadn't accepted the 10% so quickly.

    Thanks for all the comments

    Always..Always aim high :)

As i said I dont know why your getting the 9100(its been out of date a while now)

The 9300 is quite big too if your worried about it being carrried around everywhere! Plus it has a 17" screen better graphics, better battery life etc..
(Cant comment too much casue i dont know what type of machine u have bought!) but i do know that the 9300 has the latest chipsets on offer and looks much much better then the dull grey 9100.

So in terms of resale alone its a winner.
Anyway best of luck with it.

The 10% seems to be a standard thing they do, dont seem to go any further than that though..

To be honest, I would cancel the order and get a 9300 if you can afford it.

I have the 9200 and I don't find it too heavy at all. Especially compared to some of the old Dell laptops. Just get a decent rucksack for carrying it around.

At last- a post that gives me some reassurance that I have made a sensible purchase for my E1500

I am cherishing penexpers positive vibes :D

No-one was saying the 9200 is heavy...we were referring to the 9100 mentioned in the OP's post.

Wait...did you buy the 9100 or the 9200?
If it's the 9100 it'd wanna be tricked the hell out at that price.
    Mind posting the specs?

When I ordered my E15 printer I got it the same week.... had some major problems with them a few years back though, they just couldn't get the order right and we ended up with 3 (THREE) machines sitting in our spare room (good thing we're bloody well honest!) and not one of them the right spec :D

    Sure, I ordered a 9100 on 14/3. Spec is

    P4. 3.0ghz, 1mbL2 cache, 800MHZ FSB, 15.4 WXGA
    512MB Dimm (2X 256)
    60Gig (7200rpm) IDE HD
    8X DRD R/W
    150watt ac adapter
    12cell 96whr and subwoofer
    nylon carry case
    kensington security lock
128MB ATI mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card
    1450 802.11 a/b/g wireless mini pci card
    USB mouse (not cordless)
1 year CAR (collect and return)
1 year accidental damage cover insurance from Legal & General
    Total excl. VAT E1,214.00
    Vat E255.11
    Total payment E1,469.91

I did get a couple of extra tricks that bumped up the price. I think the WXGA, 512DIMM and the faster larger Hard drive drove it up aroung E200-E300-but I wanted a desktop replacement. The salesguy also offered the extra insurance at 1/2 price so I took that too.

    Nice.
Just as a comparison on dell's pricing policy though, check out this 9100 at dell outlet. It comes to €1,373 total (no insurance though) and sports 1024mb RAM, 3.4ghz P4, 80gb 5400 HDD, 256mb ati 9800 and WSXGA screen. If they're not fast about getting your machine out to you (or even if they are) I'd query the price again with that salesperson, and try to get a few more bells and whistles thrown on to yours...

Not a criticism, just a suggestion. It's currently a buyers market at Dell, since they have so many new machines coming on stream, meaning old stock needs shifting.,,

Ordered my Dell 8400 on Monday 21st March (evening).
They attempted delivery on Thursday 24th (morning).
Instead I took delivery the next morning... yes "Good Friday"... nice one InterLink!

3 nice neat boxes... contetns exactly what I ordered.

    Very pleased. :D

Its a nice bit cheaper alright-But stuff from the Dell outlet is returned gear that been refurbished (with all the guaranties of course!). I thought about that option when I was ordering but decided to get brand new instead to prevent me having someone's elses problem. Still that extra ram and 256m graphics cheezes me off a bit. But after the 10% discount for late delivery the final price is now E1,322
Unfortunately I realise now that I got a system that was just about to be replaced and which it seems may even be out of stock. I will phone up the salesguy Tuesday and see what he can do for me. The muorder page is saying expected delivery is now 08/04 so plenty of time to change the spec I assume.

BTW I went for a P4 system rather than Pentium M because I thought that a P4 system would be faster and more powerful. Which is preferable for a DTP machine? I have looked at the Dell website and I cannot even find a P4 laptop for sale now-they are all Pentium M's.

I left a voicemail (indicating my displeasure with the nondelivery) yesterday for the Dell salesrep's and today he offerred me a 9300 for same price including the faster disk drive and wireless card. :D I am pretty pleased now as its a much lighter model and way more stingy on the battery. Unfortunately he wouldn't give me the 10% discount as well but I am pleased indeed-can't wait for it to arrive now!

    Whens the delivery due?

Dunno - I forgot to forward the confirmation mail home so I haven't got the new order number to check it on Dells website. But it should be Monday or Tuesday hopefully as Dell sales guy promised to keep an eye on the delivery this time. Then it will be only a month since my actual first order :(

How's about this one? I'm still waiting for mine after nearly 6 weeks!
They've been called so many times. "We'll put you on priority" twice.
I've been told "It has to come in from England". Then was told "Parts have to come from Germany". Was absolutely promised that it would be delivered last Friday. Got on to them AGAIN. Just built, will be shipped on Monday morning. Still no sign of it. Rang again today. They're having difficulty getting parts for it. Definately in the next few days. It's driving me mad now. I've a number for some Operations Manager in Dublin that I must call and give out to :)

It's the 9300 I've ordered. Anybody else have trouble with delivery for this model?

Apologies for the rant by the way :)

No apols necessary I know how you feel  . My new delivery date is now 18/04. I am starting to get pissed off now and wish that I had just bought the Fecking thing in PC world or Jaguar Computers or anywhere but Dell. Can you pm me that Operations Manager number and I will bitch to him too.

Well my 9300 finally arrived on Monday last 18/04. 5 weeks after the first order for a 9100. Its great though so far :D . Only one problem- Dell debited my credit card twice. First time on 09/04 and again on 19/04. I only noitced it today on AIB's internet banking website Dell will sort it out on Monday so I have been told.
