help me out oh fellow oldies

Remember that 'how to cross the road 'song they taught you in primary school? the one you got a blue badge with judge from wonderly wagon on it for singing?

    how did it go??

    something like this methinks:
remember one, look for a safe place
two dont hurry, stop and wait,
three look all around and listen
    before you cross the road
four let all the traffic pass you
five keep walking straight across now
six thats the safe cross code!!!!!

    is that right?

If I recall correctly, you're correct, except for the last line, which should be something like:

"six.. KEEP WALKING! .. that's the safe cross code."

Yeah I remember the video for it too, at 6 or 7 I fecking hated the song and video, thought it was crap, at even 6 common sense prevailed and sorta still does (what idiot crosses the road without looking in both directions), so thats kept me alive. Maybe everyones different, Im sure other than yourself the songs helped some people.

Funny to hear the song again, I know it'll be stuck in my head for the rest of the day though.

did you ever see Tommy Tiernans sketch on it and comparing it to the Green Cross Code of Stop, Look, Listen ?

    QUOTE]

    I was being facetious!

if anything this ad and it's UK equivalent may have actually added to raod death and injury amongst kids. There was some evidence in the 70's to suggest that kids using these safe methids felt that they were immune from being hit! the kids thought that even an oncoming car would avoid them and not hit them if they kept walking and watching and so forth.

God, I just bored myself there!

Sure helped me stay alive all these years. Still have the badge.......might bring it out for a saturday night wander around town......

Those poor singing children......the dim feckers probably only learnt the first four lines!

    It was:

    remember,
one, look for a safe place
two, don't hurry, stop and wait,
three look all around and listen
    before you cross the road,
    remember,

    six, keep watching,
    that's the safe cross code!!!!!

    safe place, stop and wait
    safe place, stop and wait
safe ground, look around, listen for a traffic sound
if traffic's coming let it pass
until the road is clear at last
then walking straight across the road
    keep watching, that's the code.

    remember,
one, look for a safe place
two, don't hurry, stop and wait,
three look all around and listen
    before you cross the road,
    remember,
four, let all the traffic pass you
five, then walking straight across you

    that's the safe cross code
    know the safe cross code
    know the code!
    :)

The video for it was filmed in Kilmacud in Dublin, near O'Dwyers pub on the lower Kilmacud Road. I live near there, so I recognise it easily enough. The whole ad, with Judge, Foxy and Mr. Crow of Wanderly Wagon - which none of todays kids would know - was a great. I enjoyed it. Still, I can be a bit of a jaywalker, but I've never been hit by a car, yet! :)

Hi I also got a badge but have since lost it. Does anyone know the guitar tabs or chords to play the song? Might be a laugh to play at a party.

Some of it, where the two kids are at the traffic lights, is from our Lady's Grove on the Goatstown Road. I wonder where those two "kids" are now? :)
