When you start your computer, you should see a spalsh screen that will say "Windows XP" or "Windows 98" etc.

as a rule of thumb, wait and see if it happens a second time - then bug the staff. it is microsoft after all - they are the spawn of satan.

Oh please. They're a corporation whose goal is to maximise profit and share prices. You may not like them but that hardly makes them the spawn of satan.

That's what they are there for

Seriously they'll probably tell you that windows does that every so often (true) and if it appears to be fine, then happy days, but if it keeps doing it then to let them know..

When it said 'dumped to disk' was the screen blue? If so there's nothing to worry about at all. The Blue Screen of Death is a well documented 'feature' of all variants of the Windows operating system ;)

You can right-click the 'My Computer' icon on the desktop and go to 'Properties', that should tell you what version of windows you're using.

This kind of thing happens with PCs all the time, unless it happens regularly or there's a certain set of actions make it happen, don't worry about it. Just save your work as you go along and you'll be fine.
