Love the bit with "there's not a lot of swearing.. not a lot of putdowns. There's not screenfuls of Go To Hell!"

Obviously hasn't been on a thread with Godlike! :D

    EDIT:

Also loved when they has the users from different parts of the world saying what the Internet meant to them:

"Someone in Engand - "I can indulge my deep and abiding passion for all things Thai"

What kinda sites is he looking at?! :D

I saw that video about 3 months ago. I still can't imagine the mechanics of the internet that's depicted in it. I mean, it doesn't have sites or anything. I Just can't get my head around the practicalities of navigating it.

Takes me back to when I used to connect to a BBS. Was only the one number. Found some basic porn  but it was wiped shortly afterwards :( Connected to it with a 28kb modem (may have been a 14kb modem; its been a while).

There was another number, which had warez on it, but that was the bloody holy grail. Unless you knew of someone with the number, you couldn't get it. In the US, there was greater availbility of the numbers, but over here, it was more scarce.

Some of the younger people wouldn't believe how handy they have it, with the internet, and all.

That was the days before the World Wide Web was discovered by ordinary morons who assumed that the Web was the internet, as opposed to one part of it.

Nowadays you get people who claim their internet isn't working when IE breaks down.

video is a fake i think. Check out the WinXP background at 3:34 minutes in that video.

What's with the ".....except in Nebraska" at the end?

    Haha...Brilliant!

I love the "tilt your head to the left" part too! :-] <<---- I'm Kidding...it was sh!t :-[

I think the guy was talking through his chocolate factory when he said "There's no put-downs etc." ... I thought that's what the internet was invented for....to make 12 year olds feel important?

Hmmm...and the dude up-loading illegal court transcripts...should have been a sign of things to come. (Along with the thai porn......Im off to look up www.MeLoveYouLongTime-FiveDolla.com)

Didn't look like the Windows XP background to me. Looks more like some satellite picture for the weather report. I think it's genuine :-[ (tilt your head to the left: I'm serious!)

    After a quick Googlifaction:
1993 - There are 15 million people online worldwide and the CBC's Bill Cameron reports, "The internet is growing like an embryonic brain at a rate of 10 per cent a month."
    Taken from here

i remember being at university in 1994 and everyone crowding into one of the labs cos someone had just found pictures of NAKED LADIES on "this internetworking thing!"

    Ah, the joys of technology......

Interesting .... a list of usenet feeds gets listed at 2.15 - listed as among the political discussions are Rush Limbaugh (fair enough) and Bill Clinton ...

Interesting since the rush fro the whitehouse in which clinton was first elected wouldn't occur for a couple more years. That makes me question the time authenticity of some of the footage.

Then at 3:12 there is a screen with a UNIX copyright notice of 1992.

If this video is 15 years old, there's something wrong here.

Political discussions may not have been limited to Bill Clinton running for President, he had a political career before that.

I know, but given that in that time-period you had Panama, Grenada, and the Iran-Iraq war (with weapons supplied by the US), the gassing of the kurds, and possibly the onset of the first Gulf war - why was Clinton being discussed?

I mean, why not, but at the same time the guy would have been 'just another politician' in the US system, unless he'd either been in a prominent senior white-house position prior or been involved in something publically controversial.
