I'm looking to rip just a single chapter from a DVD to my hard drive, so it can be played as a regular movie file whenever i want. Does anybody know a good, free to download, program that'll do this?

ok I can see this thread being locked very quick as what you want to do is illegal and the mods on boards will not tolerate any behaviour like this! Just out of curosity is this a dvd that you have copywrite to or is it a dvd that you bought?

As far as i'm aware, its legal to make one copy of something for archiving purposes, as long as you have bought it and don't intend to distribute it. And you didn't answer my question :p

I've heard Imtoo DVD Ripper works very well for ripping dvd's to AVI.
Apparently you just have to make sure you have all the necessary codecs installed and then pick the resolution/bitrate you want to rip the AVI to(oh and what codec to use ie XVID etc..)
It rips chapters, time sections and the full dvd if required...

    Well, so I've heard....

No need to to get all asserative towards me! yes that is kinda true! Its legal as far as I am aware to make a backup copy of a dvd that you have bought but its illegal to lend it to anyone or sell copies of it or anything like that! I reckon you might be able to do this with dvd shrink!

You can use nero to rip individual chapters, its available on a free trial. What do you mean by regular movie file? If you want to convert to .avi format try Dr.DivX also available on trial.

Yeah i'd seen that in the other thread just a minute ago. I had it ripped to .vob using dvd decrypter, and am currently using dr divx to convert it to a playable movie file, ie a .avi.

Imtoo will do it all at once, in one click

If you just want to rip out a specific section of the DVD, grab Smart Ripper. That allows you to rip out individual chapters and suchlike from DVD's. Tis a good one.

So does dvdecrypter. Just untick the chapters you don't want and convert to avi later.

You see it here in this image.

This is one of those pseudo-legal threads....it's very difficult for me to say whether there's any illegal activity going on. :(

Anyway, the question's already been answered. I'm gonna lock this one.
