My CM 03/04 is smithered!!! HELP

I deleted my old saved game, wanted to start again, but when I try to start a new game it just freezes half way through the "creating shortlists" section.
Anyone have any ideas, i recently installed updates through this site, or could it be because my disc has one or two scratches (just small ones, have seen games working with a lot worse)

If I remember right from CM01/02, it doesn't need to load any data from the CD itself when you're creating a new game.

But in CM01/02, it did do a number of CD-checks during the creating shortlists part. If you do think it's a problem with the CD, you could try to get a "fix" off the internet to remove the CD-checks. SI actually recommended for people to install a crack if people were having this problem.

Ok, problem solved, well half solved, i bought CM 5, but it's ****, so, think i'll go back to 03/04, and i got a crack on pm, so i'll try it, once this new piece of **** finishes uninstalling, by the way does anyone want to swap it for fm? Na? Ah go on?
