CC data theft

I see AMEX are introducing a service of "one time CC numbers".

Kind of like a CC number which links to yours but can only be used to purchase one item.

No idea how it works but certainly sounds safer then just putting the card out there. The only other solution is to watch your card like a hawk. I already got my CC stolen off the internet frown.gif

Happend last year, I watch my CC statement online (the card I use for the internet a lot). I noticed 3 small orders for Amazon.com.

So I ring them up, speak to some woman and when she checks it up she starts saying "OMG! OMG!" over and over. apprantly there were over 400 orders. I nearly choked but then she said they were to the same address just different CC numbers.

Got it sorted out quickly, and it was kind of funny talking to the CC claims department they were all wary that my card number was stolen until I mentioned I was insured then they were all friendly. smile.gif

AIB have that system up now for a wee while... see it here ---> http://www.aib.ie/transactonline/help/

AFAIK, you can set it up for a single transaction, a ceiling limit on spending or i guess however you want it... It is treated just like a regular card number by the retailer so it seems pretty simple... I haven't bothered with it yet though, as I had a wee problem before and AIB just canceled the card, refunded the transaction and blocked any further transactions from that merchant.... searches on the net showed them up to be a funeral home or something...weird!
