Piercing Age Limit

    Ok,
I was in celestial ring the other day and taking a browse through the price list when something caught my eye. According to their price list the age at which you can get piercings differs to the piercing you want to get
    For Example :
    • Eyebrow :
16 with ID and 15 with parent present
    • Tongue :
16 with ID and parent present
    • Transdermal (Surface Bar ) :
18 with ID or parent present

I understand if a kid went home with a nape piercing at 16 the mother and father wouldnt be none too pleased but then again they wont be too happy with an eyebrow piercing either....
What I wanna know is why there is different age groups for different piercings? In the end you're just gonna end up with a bit of metal through your body either way....

Hang on....18 with ID and a parent present? What? Are you sure that's right? They can f*ck right off asking a LEGAL ADULT to get their mum to give permission for them to get their nape pierced....

    That can't be right!

Apparently a Labret is 17 with ID....says nothing 'bout parental consent though.

I got my 1st tattoo at 15 and i was not even asked for an i.d to confirm my age and i did not need to have a parent with me.
Then my 2nd tattoo i got in england when i was on holidays there at 16 years old, once again no i.d or parental supervision required.
At 17 I got my tounge peirced and no id either(the weird part was my 10 year old sister came with me,and she asked what age she had to be to get her tounge done and he said he would do it when she was 14)
Im 19 now and in janurary just gone i got my 3rd tattoo done and they had the CHEEK to ask me for two forms of i.d. The stupid thing was this was the same place i got my tounge done, and the same man who said he would peirce a 14 year olds tounge.WHATS THAT ALL ABOUT??? i dont think that the ages really matter in some places anymore

I have to be honest here.....at the tender age of sixteen last summer I walked into celestial ring and asked to get my nipple pierced. I look, and looked then, about 19, even 20, I rarely get IDed in pubs or off licenses or so on, so when they asked me for ID I did the standard thing of looking and then saying I must have forgot it, and after getting me to sign a consent form they did it no bother. I acted mature, I looked old, and I didn't come in with a bunch of giggling mates, just my boyfriend of the time to hold my hand. I wanted it, I still love it, I looked after it properly and still do. Tbh, it's all relative I think.

*I'd* say its due to the nature of the piercing, basically anyone can look after a lobe piercing, but a nape it it would take someone mature enough to insist on cleaning it every day regardless of how much hassle it was.

its a new thing they are bringing in to lessen the younger people getting done. too much sh!t with parents. and the different age thing is due to your body growth rate. there are parts that take longer to develop and that could be scared by getting done too young

They had the cheek to ask you for ID?
Dont you think they where right in doing so?

Its not about whether you can get away with lookin over the age they want you to be. Anybody can do that. Its the fact that they have tiered age limits for different piercings. I just found that a bit odd

But I'm a textbook case of how these different ages are far from rigid.

no they were not right considering that all the times ii was under the age limit i was never asked,i doubt i look younger now than i did when i was 16

Age limits are'nt rigid because Piercing Parlour Law is not heavily enforced. I havent heard of a piercing parlour being busted.ever. Heck, GSA is still going and i saw a queue of 12 yr olds outside it over the weekend.

I got my cartilage pierced when I was 15 in GSA. There was a sign saying no piercings (in general, as far as I can remember) under the age of 17 without parental consent. So I just rang my dad and put him onto the guy behind the counter, and bingo, piercing done.
What I'm trying to get at is that the person on the other end of the phone could have been anybody. Strange piercing system. But I supopse, as long as they get paid.

The age in Metal Morphasis is 17 Snapscan. That why you didn't need id

There is no set law so it is any age ( needle or no) but most places set guidelines to cover their own ass in case of an emergency.

Your cousin pierced her tongue 3 years ago, the first post on this page was made in March this year. Which do you think would be more accurate?

um...I've been getting pierced since I was 13 and I' still not 18 and I have 24 piercings.
And yeah the different age limits are due to both problems with parents kicking off, and that if people are too young, they mightn't be fully developed so piercings will just reject, that and you can't be sure that a 13 year old will look after the piercing...
I started getting pierced 'cos I looked over 16, when i wanted my belly button done when i was 13, he asked me for my date of birth, so i changed the year, then he asked me for my star sign, he's a smart one, but i was smarter!!Then i just kept getting pierced by him and he always thought i was 16/17, so he'd never do any oral/facial piercings on me..I got to be good friends with him and i told him 2 years later that i was 15 and he just laughed, said he didn't mind now, cos i took care of them and my body seems to take well to them aswell....no he's gone!so i have a new piercer!she'll do anything, except surface piercings on me, just cos she doens't...but i find anywhere i go now will pierce me without asking for id, even the stricter places....
    ok...end of story!!
got my first tattoo about3 months ago at the age of 17..!

porn_star, i'd say u know a fair few places if u hav gotten 24 piercings! where would u recommend for me getting my tongue done?im only 17 so im hopeing that wherever i go they wont ask me for id! :o

where are you from?? I tend to go to the same studio allthe time, i've gotten pierced a couple of time by other studios though!can't promise i'll be of help...
i wouldn't know for sure who asks for ids...like the studio i go to are quite strict about ids and the like, even though they've been piercing me since i've been 13..thats just luck!depends where your from?and just cos somewhere pierces without asking for id, dosn't mean they're that good!

im frm dublin porn_star. i was thinking of celestial ring but my cuz got done there and they said that she had to be 18, but didnt ask her for id, but according to whoever started this thread u only hav to be 16 with id and parent present(for celestial ring).

honestly, i wouldn't know anywhere in dublin, cos i'm from cork, I've gotten pierced by paddy in bodyshock a couple of times and in snakebite, but both are quite strict, i just tend to be lucky, cos i have so many piercings already, they just don't mind piercing me!!!
you might just have to wait, if you want a decent job done on it, if you're ever down in cork, there's a studio called raven who pierces ANYONE who'll do it for you...I know a lot of people who get pierced by him, cos they're underage, and they've had no major probelms, but i'm very against him ,i've seen him pierce and i wasn't impressed...no gloves, no nothing...when i enquired about getting my tongue web pierced, he didn't even know what it was!!****e!
