My throat is very sore and has been getting worse all night. I really need my voice to be strong for an Important play on Tuesday, does anyone have any remedies that'd soothe it?

    What is Southern Comfort?

May I recommend a bottle of After-Shock the night before the play ;)

...or even better if you can get your hands on a bottle of Absinth

Health food shops, and some chemists sell stuff called Bee Propolis. It tastes foul (no really, it's disgusting) but it will definitely have your voice OK for Tuesday. I know professional singers who swear by it.
It really tastes awful though, just to warn you.

Try not to talk anymore than absolutely necessary for a day or two.
Slice a few oranges and lemons and heat them (but do not boil them) for about 40 minutes in previously boiled water.
Squeeze any juice you can from them, and flavour with melika honey.

Seriously though- best advice of all- rest your voice.....

tcp in warm water and gargle it.

tastes absolutly vile, tcp is disinfectant stuff and its pretty nasty, but gargle it at night before you go to bed.

honey and tea for during the day, of course very mild, lukewarm tea ;)

Another thing- avoid fizzy drinks- especially coke/diet coke, which is extremely acidic.....

I recommend a 4 to 1 solution - the 5 to 1 recommened on the bottle is really too weak and I find a 3 to 1 solution resultes in blisters/ulcers on the tip of my tongue.

yeah you have to be kinda carefull with that stuff, you can feel it burning abit. Does the job though, just not very pleasant.

This is my super recipie for the soup that cures all colds and sore throats. It was given to me by my singing teacher.

    3 large yellow onions
    4 cloves of garlic
    3 pints water
2 chicken stock cubes (veggie cubes for vegetarians, I recommend useing the Knorr ones as they make the soup tast nicer)

Take off the loose layer of skin on the onion but leave the main skin. Chop into quarters and put in a large pot. Smash the garlic cloves in their skins with base of a mug, and put in pot. Add water and stock cubes. Bring to the boil and let simmer for 5 mins, NO MORE or it'll taste very very bitter. Strain and drink regularly during the day.

Have mints handy as it is quite stinky but it works like a charm.

Baring that instead of honey and lemon try honey, oj and ginger. The ginger burns your throat better. Enjoy! :D
