DVD firmware

    Hey,

I upgraded my NEC 3500ag firmware a while ago and now my burning speed has goine fro 48x to 32x. I haven't burnt any dvds since and didn't have any high speed blanks before anyway so i don't knwo the story there.

My firnware (riginally) was 2.16, so i installed the hacked 2.16 firmware. If i install a newer firmware (hacked), will it stil work. ie. hopefully rectify the problem.

If this has put anyone off upgrading their firmware, the DVD drive rips DVDs way faster now and only burns a little slower. But I want the best of both worlds!

    Cheers.

Just out of curiosity is your drive any louder now?
i've heard the hacked firmware makes the (previously extremely quiet) drive very loud??

yes if you flash the drive with a new working hack, and nothing goes wrong, then it should be fine.. theres alot of ifs though.

I don't use the drive too much. I've only wathced one DVD on it since then and it didn't seem any louder (certinaly not too loud to watch the film). i've ripped 2 films, one while i was in the room and again no noticable (bothering) difference.

theyd only be louder if the were spinning faster :P

Some drives are limited to 2x reading when they are reading DVD-Video discs. This is to reduce unneccessary noise when playing back dvd's, most hacked firmwares remove the lock, and so the drive spins at max speed during ripping, and so ripping takes a lot less time, but is unfortunately louder.
