    In case anyone didn't see the slashdot story the other day. Here's some of the funky stuff they are doing with window managers and the like. Some of the videos look funky.

    This stuff seems more impressive. Looking glass keeps the window shape static whereas some of the luminocity stuff they are doing makes the windows wobble. (Watch the wobble video, it's mad!). And this stuff will be in the gnome desktop, so it'll be more widespread.

    I saw the Looking Glass presentation video a while back. It was seriously impressive.

    When I first saw this I just couldn't understand the point, I mean what do you want your windows to wobble for? Still cool looking stuff though.

    Indeed, they really do look like productivity enhancers, don't they... :p Personally, I'd prefer people to work on proper GUI projects, like how to make them simplier for the average user to understand and use...

    After seeing this I was inspired to funk up my Xorg. I now have drop shadows around each window. It actually makes it easier to see windows. Don't forget that the videos they had there, they would have turned the wobble facter up a good bit to show it off. But I suspect wobbly windows might be helpful for new PC users to use PCs as it makes the windows more realistic.

    Note the Resolution Independent Rendering about half way true. That'll be very handy before long; super highres screens are already turning up on laptops, soon they'll be standard across the board.

    I'm not so sure about wobbly windows, but the wobbly menu demonstration looked like something we might see more of - a bit like dialog boxes rolling up in OSX.

    I installed XFake and luminocity and stuff, from cvs, required a full glibc compile too but it doesnt work properly, doesnt seem to create the right screen size, even when i specify it expliitly.
    Anyone else got this problem.
    Am I right in saying that its displayed over an already running x server but running on a a different display.
    well at the moment i run 2 x servers on my machine anyway, and for this im running Xfake on :0.3 however it gets displayed on :0.1 which is kinda wierd, but seems to be the only way to do it. Should I turn on composite , and damage extensions on 0.1 ? or does xfake use that anyway.
    bleargh! , ideas?
    it looks kinda crap tbh, im using luminocity :1 whatever.jpg, runs slow and moves jerky, kinda like wing commander 2.
    Also for composite, I notice they have a new extension to allow for glx with composite, which seems to be ok , but composite runs real slow without renderaccel="true" , and glx runs real slow when renderaccel="true" , which is kinda ghey. Basically cool and all as composite looks, id take glx support over it any day.
    and should turn on renderaccel??
