    bought a d-link dslg604t for my dad. At my own place I have a dsl-604+ running on BB for at least 1 year - no problems.

    Dad as BB, using the standard IOL modem, no problems either.

    Deceided to setup the new modem at my place so I could call over to him and only have to adjust the user name / password before he was up and running.

    Anyway, for the life of me, I can't get it to connect. I've copied down as much info as I can from the machine - it even says DSL is connected, but for some reason the "WAN" doesn't get an IOL IP or connect, no matter how many times I hit the "connect" option

    What am I doing wrong ?

    Did you update the firmware? The new one should be easier to use.

    pulling my hair out at this stage.

    Upgraded the firmware, indeed much nicer interface. Ran the wizard, input all the settings. Ran the tests, passes everything, except the test to ping DNS. So, double check my DNS addresses

    DNS Relay selection = Use User Discovered DNS Server Only

    User Configuration
    Preferred DNS Server = 194.125.2.240
    Alternate DNS Server = 192.125.2.241

    Which I believe are correct. Thing I can't understand, is how my old d-link 604 works perfect, yet this new d-link g604t , has got so many more options, of which I've no clue what to put in.

    Examples under WAN section;

    MRU ? set this at 1492, and 1500 , no difference
    MTU set to 1492 and 1500, no difference

    ATM service category = UBR or CBR or VBR (haven't a clue what it should be)
    PCR = X kbs
    SCR = X kbs

    I'd really appreciate if anyone has gotten this router up and running correctly with IOL - if they could send me a config or something

    still no joy with this device. Really appreciate if anyone can send me info on setting it up with IOL. IOL themselves won't help as its not the standard modem

    I have just set up my G604T to work with IOL. PM me your email address and I will send you my config file.

    I hope you appreciate this it took alot of effort to set it for IOL, then back to IBB. :D

    NM, I got it to upload onto boards.

    Just change this files file type to .xml then import it onto your router.

    EDIT: Don't forget to change the username and password aswell.

    EDIT2: Attachment removed, not needed anymore.

    Ciaran u realise anyone on boards can now see your @iolbb username and password?? and therefore login as u?

    No they can't. I left it as "xxxx@iolbb". I'm cancelling it anyway, sending the modem tomorrow.

    just wondering could ur router be fubar'd ?
    why do you have dhcp disabled ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭ondafly

    using Ciaran's config - the router is working perfectly. but as some of you spotted, the file originally had ciarans username and password. Using ciaran's info, it logs on perfectly, and I'm happy as a pig in dot. But when I change the username and password, to that of my own, or to that of my dad - it stops working. My passwords are a minimum of 9 characters and have " & " in them. My older D-link 604+ has this type of password and works fine. I'm just wondering , have I stumbled upon a flaw in the newer d-links which have a maximum password size and/or character list ? and how does one go about changing their IOL password ?

    Any thoughts folks ?

    @elexes - regarding DHCP, I always disable it on my networks.

    If that's the case are you sure that IOL have activated the account for your dad?

    ah yeah, its well activated, i had it installed when i was living there, over 1 year ago, took my wifi d-link with me to my own place, and hes been using the standard esat modem since, now hes got a laptop and wants to use wifi on it etc etc. double checked his password by signing into the usage calc, works perfectly. Very strange problem....

    me thinks someone needs a new password asap :P

    thanks to a suggestion by conor_mr2 (flaming lateral thinker ;) )

    seeing that the d-link reads its config in XML, and the password I'm using contains " & " as a character. Apparrently ampersand (sp?) has to be written as the following (when in XML code )

    &

    or in decimal

    &

    I will try this out tonight and let all know.

    double doh - my decimal example isn't being displayed - typical ;)

    all sorted now - it was indeed how the d-link was reading my password with the symbol " & " , replaced it with the "&" coding and all is well.

    :D

    thanks again to conor and ciaran
