Might go in and pick up the speaker system (http://www.lidl.ie/ie/index.nsf/pages/c.o.oow.20050331.p.Speaker) myself next Thursday. Probably be a pile of shi*e but will give it a go.

It's not on the site.. only in the newsletter. They had one in around Christmas and it was the Motorola V220... i'd presume it's the same one.

Not worth it then, cheaper on o2.ie

Yeah.. but it's that bit more expensive in Lidli because it's sim-free. You need to pay more for sim free phones.

    For example, it's £100 sterling here sim-free (http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/3652.htm)

120GB hd doesnt do dvd+rw and only goes to 4 hrs per disc.
Looks like the brand is targa

its a Targa DHR-5000 Specs are on their site http://www.targa-online.com/

4 hours is normal max for a DVD - anymore and it would be awful to watch as DVD compression is not very good by todays standards - even at 4 hrs it will be poor vhs looking.

Looks a tad expensive for a no brand - I have an old hdr and would like to upgrade for another good quality one-
Does anyone know a HDR, similar to above but with some reviews somewhere - i would prefer if it had the DTS/ProLogic decoder built in rather than the copout coax this one has. ta.

    .

I beg to differ, Ive seen a lot of 6hr recording done on a Sony RDR-GX300 and its still well above VHS quality. But thats OT and irrelevant.

I bought one anyways - thought I could bring it back if it was cak.
Its quite good so far - likely keep it. Certainly none of the bad points in the reviews of the price comparable LiteOn. Good picture. Good functions. Quiet. I can post more details if anyone is interested.

Not region free though - anyone know where to get the codes to make it region free?

What's the verdict on the DVD HDD Recorder chaps?
Saw one today and it looks okay for the price?

Pixmania are doing a Panasonic DVD Recorder with 120GB HD for €421 + shipping which would seem like a better deal? Someone posted it on a Home Entertainment thead the other day.

Pleased with the Targa so far - and I'm a very fussy person. Video editing and recording is very good. Firewire port is useful for the video camera. Only burns does -R and -RW and 4 hours to a disk - but quality is fine. Menus are very nice and quick to record etc.

+R would have been preferable. Supposed to be able to burn at 'Fast' speed - but I cannot figure out how to burn faster than 1x. manual says its possible though...

The Liteon got a spectacularly bad review on the web that turned me off it - menus are supposed to be really bad and picture quality even straight through without recording is bad. Sorry cannot find link..

nb. The Panasonic mentioned above is a smaller 85gig drive - not that that makes much difference, you dont need a huge drive as you can archive off stuff onto dvds.

Ozmo, can you confirm that the Targa will tune in analogue channels or do you just record from a Sky/NTL digital box? Thanks.

Important edit: I just got a second mail from pixmania this morning correcting that their version has a 80GB rather than 120GB drive as their site specified and apolgising for their error. My bad.

Yes it tunes standard analogue channels. Has straight through antanae just like a vcr.
Plus while watching the analogue channels(only), you can use a picture-in-picture to see other inputs/hd recordings at same time - dunno why - but it looks cool.

Anther nice thing is the remote for the dvr controls most of my tv(sony).

And thanks for heads up on the region code :) I'll try it tonight.

Thanks for that. Looks like I've missed the boat on this one though, I rang Lidl and they said that once their weekly offers are over then their shops won't stock them anymore :(
