I was there! It was a brilliant gig, i had a ball and all my bones hurt now.... :)

Too bad we didnt get a chance to meet up. I couldnt get in touch coz our phones weren't cooperating but i managed to bump into Doc J briefly after the gig.

Excellent night - let's do it all again! :)

Bugger, I had no idea they were even out of recording the last album, let alone touring. :(

Must pay more attention to these things. Must see Judas Priest live. MUST SEE.

Big respect to our northern cousins for the great atmosphere, great venue (cold feet though) and a top night. The gorilla scum bouncers who destroy the positive energy at every MCD gig could learn quite a lot from the staff in the Odyssey who let everybody mosh, dive and generally have a great time without interfering or getting heavy, very impressive, that's how you marshal a gig, well done to them, they allowed the evening to be what it was. Priest were every bit as great as you could have hoped for and I have to say, surprise of the night were The Scorpions, who rocked like it was 1985! Great show, great bands, great venue, great crowd, great great great.

Ancient1, next time we'll organise it better and at least one of us will have a phone that works north of Fundalk ;)

Great gig, I'm really glad I made the effort to go up and see them. Here's a link to some photos and video clips of the gig I found http://www.ironmaiden.org/showthread.php?t=42234

Great gig, brilliant show throughout. I was a bit pissed though and didn't remember Rob coming out on the bike until I saw those photos above :p I even asked Ancient1 the next day and he didn't remember either! Damn that Stella Artois, damn it to hell!!! :D

    Nice one Treebeard.

He came out on the bike?

Either i was more pissed than i thought, or i was refuelling my tank at the bar...

    Great pics man!

I saw them over in Manchester, great gig :D

Nice to hear stuff like I'm a rocker and Hot rockin being played live again. They sounded fantastic live (and i'm a rocker is one of my favourite priest songs so I was more than happy)

The scorpions were great too, I went out and bought one of their cds afterwards and am in the process of checking out more of their back catalogue.

I was well impressed with the staff and the way the whole thing was set up in Belfast. If they only did that down here it be a different story. All though as usual we're dealing with ****ing a mickey mouse set up in Dublin!!

Wait til they released the album first Grid. :P..... Then fingers crossed for a world tour, with an Irish date thrown in to boot.

    I'm liking the new song

The Priest are great. Not more world tours for them though afaik.

Their "Epitaph" tour was their last world tour but I'd expect to see them do plenty of dates in promotion of the new album. Presumably playing slightly more sporadically that a full working world tour.

Wouldn't mind seeing them in an open air venue.

Saw them at Graspop in 2011 on that Epitaph world tour, Ozzy pulled out so they ended up headlining doing a 2 and a half hour show...Was great even though Robs vocals were clearly waning. The new songs sound like hes trying not to strain his voice too much making it not too much of a struggle to perform live...

    Heres the new track

...Yes I too realize they were due to stop touring at the end of that Epitaph tour but they've announced thats not the case anymore and will be touring select dates to support the new album http://judaspriest.com/news/fullstory.asp?id=ED4F0F58-0EDA-47BD-A73F-0C870E425238

The production on the new album is abysmal and the songs are boring and generic. Really disappointing so far :(

I was going to say i like the production!

After a few listens I'm the same boat. Sound like the album needs a good punch in the face.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭SirLemonhead

Are you getting an Iron Maiden vibe from some of the songs? Cold Blooded (sounds sorta Dance of the Deathish) and Sword of Damocles.

It sounds very much like Richie is on show too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,977 ✭✭✭GhostInTheRuins

The three songs that I've heard from the album so far have to be the most bland songs I've heard in a very long time. Halford doesn't even sound like he's trying. Sure one of the songs (can't remember which) sound like Ozzy could give him a run for his money. Don't get me started on the production, it's absolutely atrocious. I'm fairly disappointed with what I've heard so far.

Blabbermouth reported that it is set to be their first (!) top ten album in the U.S.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭smackbunnybaby

This album has some moments, but ultimately lacking in a bit of 'umph'.

Got me listening to their other albums, some of which I know well (Painkiller), some which I don't (Defenders of the Faith)!

What are people's favourite Priest albums?

Saw Sterogum rank them all here: http://www.stereogum.com/1691165/judas-priest-albums-from-worst-to-best/photo/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭SirLemonhead

Ram it Down as second worst album? I wouldn't agree with that AT ALL.. I don't agree with Painkiller higher up than Screaming for Vengeance but I'm glad to see they didn't put it as number 1 as I expected.

The fairly awful Touch of Evil live album being one spot higher than Angel of Retribution is also really really odd.

I know it's a hugely popular album but I can't say I care for Stained Class much... I don't like how the guitars sound on it and I don't care for songs like Exciter, White Heat - Red Hot (which I think is dreadful) or Hero's end. Savage (awesome solo by Ken), Invader and Beyond the realms of death are classic though.

I'd say my favourite album is Defenders of the faith but it can flip between that, Screaming for Vengeance and Hell bent for leather.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,451 ✭✭✭blastman

I'd go for Screaming For Vengance or British Steel, probably.

.....and it's currently the number 6 album in the U.S., in case anyone was wondering.

Agreed. It's not a brilliant album but I'd definitely rank it higher than the likes of Point of Entry, Nostradamus, rocka rolla and turbo.

It'd be hard for me to choose a favourite, but one album I always go back to is Sad Wings, so maybe that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭SirLemonhead

I've just put Ram it Down on again.. forgot that I really do love this album quite a lot :) I think in terms of pure guitar showmanship, it beats ram it down quite a bit (those leads and harmonies on Hard as iron as especially good)

Rob sounds excellent on it (the Blood red skies intro!) - he'd been abusing his voice during the 80's (alcohol abuse and god knows what else.. ) but came back pretty strong for the Turbo album and that continued onto this.

Yeah, it IS typical late 80's hair-ish metal in a lot of places such as Love zone and Love you to death (though that KK solo!), but it's not without it's charm. There's something about it that I think it's FAR less cheesy and cringey than some of the stuff on Painkiller can be (that album has pretty appaulling lyrics, Rob himself commented on such at some point but what happened then on the new album..)

And I love that Rockman guitar tone :) "Thin"?! pfft!

...I think i'm trying to make a thinly veiled "Painkiller is overrated" point here.. !

Ram it down is a brilliant album! I don't know how anyone would consider it Priests second worst album

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,449 ✭✭✭Wrongway1985

Priest announced for Wacken 2015 although thats sold out as usual means more European dates imminent at least most likely more festival shows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭McDave

I know it's been out a while now, but I've really been getting into ROS since before Christmas. The songwriting is pretty good, and the overall consistency is there, particularly for such a long album. Rob's vocals sound a bit phoned in at times, but considering his age we should be grateful, and he's great on quite a few of the tracks.

Personal favourites: Dragonaut, ROS, March of the Damned, Battle Cry and Beginning of the End.

Regretting not getting the deluxe edition with extra tracks. A definite grower, and easily a four star effort.
