Where to get Clothes Dye?

    Hey,

I have a really cool slim fitting denim jacket which is a bit too 'blue' for my liking, and the threads are too yellow. I was thinking of dying the whole thing a darker shade.
Can anyone tell me a)if this will work, and b)where I could get the dye to do it?

    Cheers,

    Kevin.

Chemists usually stock it, but try Hickeys fabric shop which should have it. You have to add salt when you're dying and make sure the water is very hot.

Whenever I have dyed clothes before I have used a basin as I am afraid of using the washing machine but the only problem with a basin is potentially uneven dying if u know what I mean.

I'd reccommend using Dylon's cold dye as you don't need hot water for it, and it doesn't need to be done in the washing machine either. I've used it for my mini-company in transition year (we did tie dye and batik t-shirts) and for dying bed sheets.

You can get it in any chemist or Hickeys...remember you need about 8oz of salt plus the fixing powder as well, after that all you need it a big clean bucket, rubber gloves (unless you want multi-coloured hands) and a wooden spoon or some such that won't be missed for poking it with to ensure it all gets dyed properly.

I was going to ask where to get ... but Hickey's or chemist! Thanks!

Would it work well for shoes do ye think?

They are fabric shoes, as in not leather or plastic, but they are a bright purple, so I would like to make them black.

Trimmings just beside the hapenny bridge on the northside have the best selection of dyes and colours, much better than hickeys. For shoes though i think you might be better using shoe dye, the cobblers & key shop on the first floor of Stephen's Green shopping centre have loads of shoe dyes.

    Good luck!

€8 or €9 in Hickeys. I bought a pack for my friend a week ago. They're 20c cheaper in the chemist on Georges St.
