    Hi Guys,

Just got Painkiller - heard it is an excellant game.. but I cant run it because i get the following error:

ERROR: directX 3D graphics renderer problem blah blah...

from searching on google it seems to be a widespread problem with Intel Extreme Graphics... havent seen anyone finding a way around it either... The Painkiller site says it is simply not compatible but theres always a way round this kind of thing...

anyone found a way round it?? :)

HL2 is alot more scaleable than the PK engine.

Thats cos you were stupid enough to buy a computer with "Intel Extreme Graphics" before looking up what they are. If you had checked you would have discovered they are the pants of the pants of the sub pants.

Get yourself a decent graphics card. The Intel Extreme Graphics aint even worth my 2c.

Yes i am aware wat intel extreme graphics are and was aware when i bought the PC but at the time i couldnt budget for anything better...

hasnt really been a problem up to now...

its cos it uses vertex shaders, and has to have them. HL2 can run without vertex shaders, as can doom3.

UT2003/4 and painkiller require them, soon all games will.

Most games are not supported by the "Intel Extreme Graphics". For example none of the Battlefield games will run correctly on it as it does not have Hardware T&L.

You are better off getting an old 9200 oe Geforce4 MX420 or something for 40euro.

a 9600pro can be picked up for about €100 i believe. That would be the minimum i'd recommend, and even still, i wouldn't recommend that unless you really can't afford something better.

In my case, i have a laptop, and so it ain't upgradeable. But if you have a desktop, get yourself an absolute min of a 9600pro, but ideally maybe an Nvidia 6600gt or better.

thanks for the suggestions guys, but i dont have an AGP slot.. :) hehe.. so only PCI cards available to me.. i know this is crap but i didnt originally buy this PC for gaming...

Afaik, no new graphics cards are made in a PCI version, so you're going to be severely limited in your choice. I'm not sure if any decent PCI cards are available that would play painkiller.

If you want to play games, you might end up having to get a new motherboard AND AGP graphics card, and just move everything else over to the new motherboard.

Of course that mightn't work if you have a dell :p
