Hi, I played in my first poker tournament in Maynooth during the week. I went out fairly early but I really enjoyed it. I'm thinking of heading up to Dublin for some games so I was wondering what's the poker scene like.
I see that the Fitzwilliam hotel has a freeroll today but I want to win some cash, dammit, so where else can you play in Dublin. I don't want to spend too much until I get some more experience, so I'm looking for games in the €20 or €30 buy in region.

the free roll tournament is on in the Fitz ( alright but they usually get €10 single table tournaments, single table satelites and a €25 cash game going on when people get knocked out of the tournament.

afaik there isn't much going on anywhere else (Merrion has a free roll too i think)

Tonight is the freeroll in the Fitz, probably the best night for the €25 buy-in cash game since there's loads of students in, it's a round of each (hold'em and omaha) usually, but if you just want Hold'em and there's a table full of willing players I'd say the Fitz would put on the game.

yeah, there's a load on friday nights as well but the game is 50. I'd try to avoid the less populated nights as you've a strong chance of ending up at a very tough table.

if you're new to hold'em and don't know your omaha there's a good short guide here. It says online but obviously it applies across the board.

    www.winningonlinepoker.com/PLO

(think that's the address anyway, the server in work bars it for 'gambling content' so thats a good sign :D )

O.K., I'm gonna head up to the Fitz today for the 4.30 freeroll. I know you can win entry for the monday night game but do you win any cash aswell? I'd really love to start winning some cash, LOL.

I'll probably stay for the 8.30 €20 euro game too. Just wondering is it texas hold 'em or omaha as I've never played omaha before.

You cannot win cash in the freeroll its only tickets. But S&Gs will be starting from about 6 and you can win cash in them.As for the €20 euro game tonight its one round of hold 'em and one round of omaha.

On a side note,I dont think their will be many in for the freeroll today as the Football is on....thats why I will be giving it a miss. This could be a good thing for your first visit

Thanks for the info Dub13, I did think it was the Fitzwilliam hotel.

Its a Sit and Go...its a one table tournament with each player paying 10 euro to enter, the winner gets 50euro and second place gets 30 with the house taken the last 10 euro

if you went out early from that joke of a tournament in maynooth on tuesday, stay away from any cash games!!! The standard was the most atrocious imaginable!! I play a lot of the free rolls in the merrion and the fitz, and while they often are bad, they are the WSOP compared to that abomination on tuesday.
I ended up at the final table on tuesday and there were a small few good players. Nothing spectacular though! nice guys though!
I'm saying this for your own sake. If you didn't make it to the top 20, unless you got a really bad beat, stay away. you'll be saying goodbye to your money!
On a separate point. I doubted the ability of those involved on tuesday (organisers included!) to count as i saw split pots divided wrong at least four times. Full house came out on the board and one of the 'tournament directors' didn't have a clue what to do. Pathetic and Unacceptable behaviour from people who are supposed to be professional. Drinking while running a tournament is not on!!!!

don't have a clue. some friggin 'kildare poker series' cowboys. Wasn't advertised anywhere. There were 20 posters inside the room though. marketing not their forte. I only found out that day because of a post on poker.ie. And furthermore, the post said all the details EXCEPT for the actual date. IDIOTS!
If i seem annoyed it's because there is such great potential out there for great tourneys but asses like these are engaging in ****e they shouldn't be doing. And then you have that pokerevents.ie bull**** of capped prizepools.

The fitz freerolls are great though. Came third today with a nice 60 euro credit.
