Does anyone know cost (installation) and / or use of solar heating to supplement oil or gas for home heat ? Anyone got any experience or know anyone with solar heating ???

    Hi sundula,

Solar panels for central heating would be very hard to justify cost wise, even the panels for hot water have long pay back times partly due to our ever wise government who refuse to follow other E.U. countries and make grants available.

The Geothermal thread has some great info and well worth a look.

Solar heating and photovolatics are expensive right now, and because the industry is not recieving any financial aid from governents its hard to expand. I'd say solar heaters would work just fine as a supplement to normal heating, I have heard that they'll do all of it, but I'd rather have a back up just in case. Incidentally, Ireland is excellent for solar energy, getting more "sun" than Germany (note... I did not say we get more heat  ).

    Try www.sunwarm.com
    www.econrgltd.com
    www.naturalenergy.freeservers.com
    www.solaris-energy.com

Let us know how you get on, I'd be interested in hearing prices if you get them.
