I currently have my drum kit set up in my garage and am looking for a way to reduce the amount of noise that escapes out the front door, anyone know of any decent material that would do the job? Im not looking to sound-proof it, just wanna damp it down a bit!!

Heavy cloth is pretty good, if hung about a foot away from the wall. Also, check out stuff called Rockwool. Heard good stuff about that.

i helped a bloke in work build a gaff in wexford over the past while and we insulated the whole place with an acoustic fibre glass and it did the job 100% ... for a garage i'd say about 4 roles at 25 notes each would do ya...just ring your local builders providers and ask about acoustic insulation...awight

Theres a company called atil who sell rockwool. http://www.atil.ie . They're based in Dublin.

It wont do it 100% and whoever said it does is talking out there arse. 100% sound proof is bordering on impossible, but it will help a little. You'll find that the most problematic areas you have are the door and any windows, seeing as your in a garage, your most likely behind a gable wall which should be fairly sound tight already. The best way of sound proofing a door is the build a soundreducing panel on the back of it which seals the gaps the whole way round the edge. You can buy professional acoustic door seals also, but they're expensive. Another approach is to put as much material and fabric in the room as possible as it soaks up the noise before it has a chance to escape.

I made my garage into a perfect vacumn so its 100% soundproof.

However the downside is i cant here anything either... and the lack of oxygen.
