Anyone have a Nokia 2650?

    Hi,

Thinking about upgrading my phone as I absolutely hate my Motorola one and will never leave Nokia again! Just wondering if anyone has the 2650 and what do they think of it? I know it doesn't have a lot of the same features as the 6610i for example, but I never use the camera on my phone and am planning on getting a mini ipod so am not too bothered about the radio. I like the look of it basically (it's the silver fold one).

I hate the Motorola (v220) because I miss a lot of the features on my old Nokia 8310, which I lost. I stupidly got the Motorola back on my insurance. Oh, and I'm on o2 bill.

    T.I.A.

It's a terrible phone - don't go near it. It is Nokia's first effort at a flip phone, and it is a shocking attempt. Here is quite an accurate review. It isn't a particularly good looking phone in the flesh either.

Have you checked the For Sale: Mobiles forum on boards? you will find much nicer phones there for a good price.

    Thanks for that Eoin.

The review link wouldn't work for me, I found another one elsewhere and it wasn't bad... The reason I was looking at it really it that it would only cost me €30 to upgrade. Anyway, I'll have a look around.

No worries - here is the text from the site for your info.
The Nokia 2650 clamshell phone, released in October 2004, has the kind of specification that Nokia's rivals were releasing over a year earlier. In fact, the phone has nearly identical features to the Nokia 3100 that was released 15 months earlier! The 3100 had the advantages of being a nice-looking, lightweight phone, whereas the 2650 is neither nice-looking nor lightweight.

It is hard to say anything very positive about this phone, and it confirms the impression that Nokia don't yet "get" clamshells. Our advice would be: "look elsewhere!"

Features of the Nokia 2650 include:

    Internal display: 4096 colours, 128 x 128 pixels
Flashing LED light pattern indicates incoming calls and SMS
    4-voice polyphonic ringtones
Multimedia Messaging - send and receive text, image and MIDI (audio) files
    Java™ games
    Send and receive business vCards
    vCalendar notes for scheduling meetings
    Personal organiser
GPRS Class 4 (3+1), CSD, HSCSD
XHTML browser over WAP stack (WAP 1.2.1 compliant)
    Vibration alert
    Dual band (EGSM 900/1800)
    Weight: 97g
    Size: 85 x 46 x 23 mm
    Talktime: up to 3 hours
Battery standby: up to 300 hours

i have a 2650, to be honest i wasnt pleased at the start, its got no connectivity but it was a cheap upgrade for me, i had lost two t630's and wasnt mad bout spashing out again. its grand tho, screen is a bit small...but i think the fact its so soft on your face during calls makes up for everything :p

It's not a very good phone but if you're not looking for much out of it...
It's also rather ugly I think.
You might get a better response in the Mobiles board.

It would only cost you 29e to upgrade to a 6610i. You might as well if they're the same price. The 3100 and 6100 are nice also. Good basic phones.

I'll probs go for the 6610i because there are a few things about the 2560 that I don't like. No outer screen for example.

    Thanks for your replies.

I have the 2650 and heres my 2 cent.

I got it on the cheap (€50 upgrade) and was very pleased. This phone has very little in the way of unessessary features, no camera polyphonic rigtones only, a 128x128 pixel colour screen and no infared connection, but I still love it.

I like its look, its weight, its layout and the way it fits comfortably around my ear. Anybody who rates this phone bad is not looking for a phone, they are looking for a swiss army knife that rings people.

I bought this phone BECAUSE it has no mp3 player, flashlight or gps tracking system, not in spite of it. If you want a simple good looking phone then get this baby its 7 day battery life alone should be enough to convince anyone.
