Ok im in first year in college, and so are pretty much all of my other friends not in my college. And i've noticed that everybody seems to be on a bad buzz at the moment. People just dont seem to be in the mood. I myself have been on the worst buzz of my life for the last 8 months over a family death but cant understand why other people are!! Did anybody else experience this in there first year of college or is anybody experiencing the same?

I can only speak for my own experiences, but in my first year in college it was a combination of things that put a downer, if you will, on being in first year.

Struggling with money was difficult especially when books for college were twice and three times the price of books that you used for secondary school.

Landlords charging you an arm an a leg for rubbish accomodation.

not knowing anybody. having to break the ice with everybody in your class and your college.

alot of people would probably find being away from home in firstyear a bit difficult too i guess.

I did my first year in Carlow RTE (now Carlow IT) and I have to say I detested it. I ended up transfering to Liemrick. I didnt like the college, nor the town, or my landlord, or the accomodation. the six-eight hour journey to and from home every weekend was also a nightmare. I would have given up on college had I not gotten the transfer to Limerick.

Personally, I think winter has a lot to do with it ... see how peoples moods change when the sun is shining ..... its easy to be miserable and pissed off when its dark, wet, and icy cold.

    Just my opinion .....

First week in college I had 14 x-rays and was taken to Dubln in an ambulance for a CAT scan because they thought my brain might have been haemmoraging after I got attcked on the way home one night in Waterford.
Was too drunk and stupid to even fight back until they broke my tooth and I copped on they were actually hurting me. Had been trying to get them to chill out before that. Grabbed one of them and gave him a few hard boxes in the face, and the other one pulled a knife. I ran off. They ran after me and shouted "Come back" which was pretty funny really.
    That pissed me right off.
Waterford's a lovely city if you like bitter wind and getting attacked for being a student. I got into two other fights with scumbags down there, both of which I won, and neither of which were provoked in any way by me. I don't know how many times friends or I were threatened and I had to psyche people out in the couple of years I was down in that poohole

exactly it. I notice it every single year in Ireland. Once people can go to college/school in a tshirt they will be smiling.
