I can understand why people see him as a good songwriter, but he will never be a guitarrero.

I can listen to Corgan leads all day, his solos always help to get the song across better rather than being for the sake of showing off, he's a really tasteful player and it's not as if he's a slouch in the speed department when a song requires it

Regardless of Billy Corgan's talent, that rig seem a little over the top. That said I'd love to have a go of it, there a nice collection of rack gear there. It's a pitty it's not a better quality photo, I can't see what most of them are. I still can't figure out what that computer is for? As for Corgan himself, as far as I know Corgan actually played most, if not all of the guitar parts on Siamese Dream, and most of Gish if I'm not mistaken. I don't thing Iha really started contributing until Mellon Collie and even then everything still seemed to have Corgan stamp so to speak on it.

No, i dont want to equate shredding with good guitar playing, that's beside the point. The reason i used Eric Johnson as an example above is not because EJ is a technically brilliant guitarist, but because he's known for outrageous rigs, having those "dog-ears" and being very picky about gear and, more importantly, tone.
Billy Corgan has nothing to offer to me, unfortunately. I didnt dismiss him straight away, coz i give everyone and everything a fair listening chance, but that guy just never did anything for me. Simply average at best. In my opinion of course.

His style doesnt rock my boat at all, or, as Doc J puts it, it doesnt jangle my balls!

Ahhh I've a lot of time for Billy Corgan, anyone who claims to have learned guitar by feeding back over Black Sabbath records is a good egg in my book.

Just recalled an interesting thing about Eric Johnson and his "dog-ears", he claims to be able to hear the difference in tone depending on what battery is in his pedals, to the extent where he can actually tell you what brand of battery is in the pedal through tone alone. ****ing A!

I really doubt that BC uses half that rig - he shouldnt have to, tbh.

As for EJ, i have a diagram of his rig somewhere at home. It's perverse - he's amassed a priceless collection of vintage Fender amps alone for his clean tone. But i guess if EJ says it sounds good then it does, right?
