i have attached a new pc with powercinema to my ntl digital stb (pace). the application software can scan and find analogue channels (not digital?) but it cannot find the epg guide.
note - the epg source is 'NexTView' - it does let me change this - any ideas? thanks

    This is simply not possible.

You won't be able to get the EPG data from the digital via an analogue connection. If you can rig the digital up to the TV tuner card (not always directly possible, some boxes don't have RF-out, so you may need to work via a VCR or another route) you can of course bring up the NTL EPG by pressing Guide on your remote as usual.

Alternatives: you could use ShowShifter which provides an EPG in later versions, or Digiguide (this won't tie in with your software though).

Incidently in finding analogue channels you're doing better than me, I have a new PC with a TV Tuner and PowerCinema, and it only finds E4 for some reason. My old PC with a Haupauge WinTV card had no such problems...

Sounds like its only scanning the UHF band. NTL have e4 on ch21 on UHF.
Probably the only strong station you'll get on UHF while connected to cable hence the only station your card finds.

Related question to getting the EPG...

I saw in '5.40 software upgrade' thread that belmulletman posted a link to the new Pace set top box:

    http://www.pacemicro.com/corporate/products/prodinfo.asp?PID=DC220

Reading through this I see the mention of the following:
A/V link VCR control and RS232 serial communications can also be provided through this connector.

I know the likelihood of this is nearly zero, but is there any chance that it would be possible to send rs232 commands on this port - and get information such as current channel - or even better the EPG? :D

You'll only be able to route the digital signal through your stb to your pc surely? idgc posted earlier:

So you'll need to see if your digital stb has a rf-output, if it does you can run this into your tv tuner card. Of course this means that you will only have access to one channel on your PC, whatever channel your stb is currently tuned to.
