A Google for "duplicate files" will turn up loads of applications, but they all have slightly different features and methodologies so you might need to try a few. Three I've used are "Acute Finder", "Check Identical Files" and "Duplicate File Finder". I seem to remember Acute Finder being pretty good, but it was a while ago so I could be wrong.

you could do a simple search *.mp3 and sort by size - if you don't have hundreds that would be faster than learning how to use an ap

    www.slavasoft.com - has a utility called fsum
it can calculate md5 checksums for all files

    c:
    cd \
    fsum -jnc -r *.* > filelist.raw
    sort <filelist.raw > fielist.txt

you now have a list of files on your drive - duplicates will be based on actual content of the file not name or size.

Now all you need is a script to highlight the duplicates, oddly enough I'm doing up one..

make sure you use something that chechs the file hash,
    not just duplicate name/size.

Using iTunes you can filter your music collection to show duplicate song names.

    edit/show duplicate songs....

Wasn't in earlier versions, but is definitely in the latest one.

The best programme for cleaning up your computer is EasyCleaner2.0.
It is By ToniArts and is handy for clearing the registry and such.

It is a hefty 2.8 MB to download - but once installed you can easily:
Clear your cookies, internet history, registry, duplicate files, unnecessary undo and shortcut files, most recently used programmes / documents list, add / remove programmes - with the press of a button.

You can also sort out your Startup List - which greatly speeds up your boot up time.

This is a great programme for cleaning up your pc and I recomend it.

If you cant find it on the net I have the installer here on disk and will post it to you or whatever.
