is there cheaper equivalent of canon 300mm F2.8 L IS USM lens? Not expecting to find the same quality for half the price but looking for lens which would give satisfactory results at bit lower price.

I know they are not fixed zoom lenses like above mentioned canOn but both of the look good to me.
    anybody used

    Sigma Zoom Telephoto 120-300mm f/2.8 ??
    or
    Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM ??

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM is a stunning lens but is very expensive unless you're either very rich or you make good money from your pictures

when you say action, what do you mean, what locations andlighting will you be shooting under?

it would be used to capture sports action mainly bike/car racing shots, may use it for wildlife too. Light is not always the best that's why i was going to get one of this lenses

Sigma 120-300 and Canon EF 70-200mm
both of them are in the same price bracket and much cheaper then fixed zoom 300mm which has limited use

sigma has better range but canon has Image Stabilization, so not sure which one ,specially did have a chance yet to try any IS lens

Maybe canon with 1.4 tele converter which would make very flexible package

I use a combination of canon 200mm 2.8L and canon 1.4 convertor..the picture quality is excellent, this combo is nice and light to walk around with...the 200mm lens itself is the fastest focus lens I have used, faster than my canon 70-200mm 2.8
