Not too sure which forum to put this in, so mods feel free to move it if this isn't the right place.

Anyway, has anyone had any dealings with advancedmp3players.co.uk. Just after ordering an iRiver H-120 off them but after getting an email from them asking to fax or email them a jpeg of the top of a credit card statement which is for security reasons to prevent credit card fraud or so they say. Their exact words in the email about it were:
We are sorry about the inconvenience this may cause you. Please note that these measures are intended for customers protection to prevent Credit Card Fraud.

Does this happen all the time when you order off them or should I just cancel the order if they are looking for something like this

    Any help appreciated

I ordered off them early last year and didn't have to send any extra info to them. You better email them to make sure its legit.

Great service BTW, my mp3 player broke after about 6months, they sent me out a new one and I returned my broken one when it arrived. No hassle.

are you getting the item delivered to a different address than your credit card billing address ?

I had to do the same with Apple as I was getting something delivered to the UK. (an iPod I bought with an Irish address CC)
I wasn't too comfortable doing it though.

    email is NOT secure,

no reputable company should be asking you to email details like this.
ring them up, using the number on their site and find out.

if they really want you to do this, tell them you have no scanner / camera and buy the mp3 player off someone else,

mx2.co.uk springs to mind for a good deal ;)

I say they're the scum of the earth, essentially their accusing you of fraud and asking you to prove your innocence. I similar thing happeded to two of my friends when ordering PCs from Dell.

One borrowed his Aunt's creditcard, gave her the cash and ordered the PC to his address. without any notise Dell saw the delivery address was diffrent to the card address, reported the card as stolen. meanwhile his Aunt and Uncle were on holiday in Holland, they were paying for a meal when they were told their card was stolen, and were stuck with hardly any money for the rest of their holiday!

Same thing happned to another friend, he Bought a PC off Dell using his brother's CC, again, paid him the cash and put in the order, His brother lives next door to him though, so the address was diffrent by 1 in terms of the house number and the surnames were identical, didn't stop Dell, reported the card as stolen.

    There all ****ebags IMO

You can't call ADV MP3 players scum because of dell doing something stupid

I know you should never send cc details by email, I'm not that stupid. Billing address is the same as shipping address just that it's my mums name on the cc and not mine.

I know of mx2.co.uk but they're charging £218.99 where as ADV MP3 Players are only charging £189.99, so that was one factor in deciding who to order from. I've sent an email to them asking for the exact reason why I should send it to them and am waiting on a reply

on a side note, buy the h-140 from which ever one is cheaper.

I would only no-one seems to be selling them anymore. Everywhere has the H-320/340. But I don't need an MP3 that has picture viewing capabilities. All I want is a MP3 players to listen to music, simple as.

Don't you think it's insulting to be asked to prove that your credit card is yours by a shop. If you walked into Dunnes Stores for groceries and they wanted to see a credit card statement with your name and address before they'd let you buy your milk, you'd throw it in their faces. I'm aware internet shopping is more open to fraud, but accusing every customer of being a criminal is not cool.

I ordered a H120 off these dudes last week, using my girlfriends CC, and they asked for the same. I basically faxed them a letter which the CC company had faxed to my girlfriend confirming the card was hers, blah blah... I didn't like it, but once they had that the order was sent quickly. Received 2 days later. You should be grand if you can fax them something.

Just got a reply to the email I sent them as this is what they said:
Thanks for your email. Our payment system was unable to successfully match the address data you entered into the website with the details registered for this payment card with your bank. It is for this reason that we are asking you to complete this extra security check. Any official document that links your name with the address you have supplied will suffice. A driving licence, bank statement or utilities bill would be ideal. These measures have been introduced to help protect our customers against credit card crime and we apologise for any inconvenience caused to you

I'll have to talk to my mum before I do anything else about it. Don't think she'd like me doing anything further without consulting her
