How to hide a hard drive?

[I didnt know whether to put this in windows or unix so i left it here, please feel free to move]

Just finished installing Fedora core 3 on a completely separate physical hard drive, and all seems to working.

However the hard drive that linux is intalled on, comes up on windows as Local Disk (G:). When you double click on it (in my computer for example) , it says "The disk in Drive G is not formatted do you want to format it now".

Now the problem: The computer is a family one & everyone uses windows except me. How can I "hide" "G:" so's that no one will format it by mistake whilst using windows.

    Cheers

i think partition magic has an option to do that, not sure how it'd affect the linux installation though, how bout qtpart either could that do it?

    Right click myComputer - manage
    Disk Management
Right click disk - change drive letter and paths - remove

well in partition magic you'd right click on the partition and click hide/unhide partition afaik

I tried that on my own computer (XP SP2) and it doesn't work for the Linux partitions.

I think the problem might have been introduced in SP2, I don't remember seeing the problem before.

I got that before when I installed linux. I think it was because I installed it on a logical drive? because normally windows wouldn't see the Linux partition. Anyway I clicked "format" before just to see what would happen and it wouldn't format it so I think you're safe there.
TweakXP lets you hide the drive.

Be mad and mod the case to add in a power switch for the HD so you only knock it on when you using it.

Or hide it from the properties section in windows.

I've tried using Windows Disk Manager on my own system and the "Change drive letter and path" option is grayed out for the linux drives.

You can use TweakUI in XP and check/uncheck which drives letters you want to be visible in My Computer

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

i think it litterally hides them by their letter and doesn't care about their type or file system etc.

Worked fine for me on Win 2000 Pro. Windows doesnt recognise it as any file system just that its "healthy"

Yeah it used to work when I used to use Windows 2000 and I think it worked with my original Windows XP install but doesn't seem to work with Windows XP SP2. Maybe it's a "security enhancement"

BootMagic can hide a drive from one OS and let another see all the drives etc, so I've heard at least.

erm, I think should have set the partition as primary, then none of the os would be able to see each other
