Sky+ questions

Hi all, I have a regular Sky digibox with a subscription to the Family pack. I'm thinking of getting in Sky+ and what I want to do is get the Sky+ box in the sitting room downstairs and move the original box up to the bedroom but without getting a mirror subscription. I just want to use it for the FTA channels. I asked a local installer about this (same guys I got it from originally) and they said they weren't sure about that scenario and that I should ring Sky directly, but before I do that I thought I'd ask you guys on here. So, a couple of questions...

Will a Sky installer do that for me and what do you think the total cost would be. I believe that for existing customers it's €299 for the box and €75 for installation, but would he charge more for moving the original box and running another cable to it from the LNB since this isn't part of a normal "multiroom" installation?

Also, broadly speaking, how quick are Sky to send someone out once you order from them? Any quicker/slower than a local installer?

    Cheers,

    Gavin

You cannot book this through Sky directly, all you can book with Sky directly is a Sky+ upgrade and then offer the Sky installer some cash in hand to do the extra work for you, the installer may or may not accept that depending how busy they were that day. Definitely going with a reputable local installer will be faster. I don't understand what the problem was with the local installer you were talking to, what you propose is perfectly acceptable with one subscription Sky+ box and one FTA box in another location, nothing wrong with that so I don't know why they were hesitant/unsure about it.

Thanks, I think maybe it was just the person I spoke to who wasn't sure. Seemed to me they were just used to signing up customers for regular multiroom installations. I'll get on to them again about it.

    Cheers,

    Gavin
