hi people I am planning on orderind a german laptop
    see here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=236553
but have a few q's about the German keyboard.

I will have to reinstall windows to make it run the english version but should I choose eng/germ keyb ard in the installation process (is it possible to change this once windows is installed?)
I am hoping to get used to the germ keyboard but If I have problems might have to buy and external English keyboard, If i bought that would I be able to choose the language for that keyboard or would my laptop just presume its german?
    Hope you can help

You can change keyboard layouts in Windows once its installed, and always have been able to. I can't remember exactly where, but its in the control panel somewhere...

Having used a German laptop before, its easier to get used to it than it is to remember where the keys should be on an Irish layout

surely the warranty implications are not worth buying in Germany??

    Language and shipping?

Then it's not the original OS so they might insist on reinstalling the German OS...? Just think it might be more trouble than its worth.

Germany has a 2 year base warranty on IT products, from memory. We have 1

I used to always get my machines outside of Ireland. IBM, HP and Apple in Ireland all respected Canadian, US and US warranties respectively.

I don't now, thankfully we're actually reasonably priced these days.

You could just print a load of little stickers for the keys, either...

If it's the same as here in Austria that's not entirely true. They have one year warranty where they must repair it. The second year is is covered providing you can prove it's not your fault it's not working which is virtually impossible to do.

The main difference in the keyboard is that y and z which are switched. Other things like @, €,;, :, ', + and other such characters are differnet but it doesn't take that long to get used to.

Call me crazy but why not just order the english keyboard for that model and swap them, They are usually not too expensive and are piss easy to replace.
