I'm finally going to get a Canon 20D next month and of course I want to avoid paying €1999 for it over here. I'm not going to go to America to get it nor get it sent from America because I know I'd get shafted for duty on it.

That leaves me with three possibilities I've seen in the EU market. Cam Ireland, NY Camera & Technikdirekt. I think Technik are the cheapest of the three, I'd be more interested in getting it body only because I'm looking at getting a secondhand 17-40L lens.

Anyone ever buy from any of the three & what was your experience? Cheers

do you really need the features the 20D has over the new 350D?

anyway, i've heard bad things about NYcamera based in Germany, haven't seen anything particularly bad about the other two. do a post on the forums at photo.net and dpreview.com as both have so many users you'll get a good range of views on them

i got my 20D from B&H in New York and they never stung me for all the customs duties

how did you manage to get away with no duty? Did they mark the package specially or something? Did you buy it through a company? My friends dad's friend (sounding very dodgy I know) got one from B&H too and paid only like $1300. No duty either. Then again he did get some company to buy it for him. dont know all the details.

ah right.. I thought there was some newfangled way around it. Maybe I'll stick within the EU after all

NYCamera went bust a while back, and closed down. They're back up again and trying to con unsuspecting punters. Tecknikdiirect would be my recommendation - I've heard nothing bad about them to date

technik seem to be the best option alright. Roughly same price as buying from B&H too, which is nice.
