What kind of handicap could you give them?
    A 2 goal start?
A bigger goal to aim at?
    Jason McAteer?

Watching the ,match last night i was truly irritated by the tactics undertaken by Andorra It makes a moccery of the game if a team decides not to play the game but instead to go for damage reduction tactics. It made the game so damn boring to watch aopart from a few moments of decent ball.

Would it be an idea to give weak teams such as Andorra and the likes a handicap to make it a small bit fairer?? this may prevent such farces as last nights game from occuring or would it be better to divide into two seperate competitions with promotion and relegation between them. Any thoughts???

Andorra are an independent country - they're entitled to field a football team if they like. How would you feel if we were told we couldn't enter the World Cup because we were 'too crap'.

They know they have little to no chance of winning against a team of professionals so fair play to them for trying. 17 played, lost 17 - you thought we were bad?

Time was we were dreadful - anyone remember us getting beaten 7-1 by Brazil in the 1980's, then losing to Trinidad & Tobago on the same tour.

So I say: give the minnows a chance!! smile.gif

I've heard that there's plans under consideration by FIFA whereby the less skilled or smaller nations would have a pre-qualification group round where they play each other - the top 2 or so teams out of that group ending up then in the qualifying stages of the World Cup or whatever tournament happens to be on... it's an interesting proposal and may lead to more balanced groups and games in the tournaments.

Some of these "lesser" nations are obvious... such as Crete, Lichtenstein, Andorra, Lithuania, and Bosnia-Herzagovina.

Do ye think such a process would be fair?

Since when is Crete a country. Lithuania and Bosnia are certainly not "obvious" lesser nations as both teams would be well capable of beating Ireland.

I do however agree that micro states such as Andora, San Marino, Faroe Islands etc. shoul be forced to play off in a pre qualification tournament, which could be held during the actual world Cup/ European Championship.

But who, or what statistics will decide what teams go into the pre-qualifier? I think if ur a nation that can construct a squad of 22 men willing to represent their country then let them in. Time was, having teams like Lichtenstein and San Marino in Ireland's group was our only chance of ne points. And speaking of Lichtenstein, they held us to a nil all draw a few years back if im not mistaken.
