Anyone remember this "wonderful" publication? It was published around 1993-1994 and was a little A5 sized mag about buying, running and driving bangers. Lots of funny stories and anecdotes. I have 3 editions of it myself. I would have bought more but very few shops seemed to stock it.

I've never heard of it before ?!

I used to buy 'Car Choice' magazine each month. It was a great mag - full of info on sechondhand cars.
Quentin Willson (of Top Gear, Fifth Gear fame) always had an entertaining monthly page.

I've got a bunch of Jalopy mags The Book Centre in Waterford used to stock it. I wondered what happened once it went off the shelves...

Anyway a brilliant bathroom read it had easily the best user reviews of any magazine plus loads of useful bits and pieces.

The issues I have start with 15 then a bunch in the 20s up to 27 Jan 94 Spring edition!

If I had a scanner I'd post the best stuff...

    Mike.

I reckon it the nct which is killiing car prices, joe soap is scared witless of anything needing repair - sure it was great in the old days (when you just didnt maintain your car)... a work mate bought a 94 ford escort for 30quid - it had failed its NCT but was a 1.6 with all the extras and clean only 70K on the clock.... it fialed on a split cv boot - motorfactor boot and two circolips and it had a ticket for 2 years.... nice

I was in college in Dublin the time Jalopy magazine was out, I bought quite a few and yes the car reviews were very very funny, some of the articles were just brilliant.

I can also remember sitting eating my cornflakes as I prepared to head to college and on a breakfast tv show the editor of Jalopy was on with a fairly rough MGB explaining the virtues of owning old cars.

Then a couple of years ago I checked on eBay and would you believe there was someone selling the complete series, all the Jalopy mags that were ever published. I had to have them and if I remember I got them for damn all. One of them even has a "I Love my jalopy" sticker!!

Remember Skoda the Scrapyard Dog!!! Brilliant stuff.

I don't remember the mag but I do enjoy following forum for some cars on a similar vein. The more retro '70's tackiness the better. There are some fabulous cars there as well though.
