you can access your windows shares, and share out your mac via smb to windows.

Or you can use ftp etc.

    yes they can 'network'

    depends what you want.

make sure you get 512 ram

You can also share your music library via iTunes on the Mac and the PC.
Share/access printers connected to either system and control the desktops of either machine using VNC.

. . . oh, and get an Airport card too !!

Thanks for the tips, cam you just walk into the Apple store (Dawson Street) and pick up a standard Ibook or does it have to be ordered? I like the frontend of OSX and the simplicity. I do a bit of work where I need PDF's and word documents to hand for setting up stuff and also to bring stuff like antivirus updates and so on... had a good look at the 12" Ibook and it's very neat and importantly small. What's the average battery life like? Thanks

I've a powerbook 12" and normal usage will get around 4 hours, light usage upto 6, heavy usage can vary from 2-3.

As with all batteries, it depends on what you do. I have a 12" ibook and the battery is great. Its nearly 14months old and rarely turned off and i can get about 2hours watching dvd's-longer obviously working with word etc.. I'd say go for it, if you compare it to dells- my mates in college got them at the same time as me, cost nearly 700euro more, are far far bulkier and they have to have them pluged in all the time-defeats the purpose of a laptop i know!

I'd recommend buying it off the apple website, if you are a student you can get a discount, if you're not find someone you know who is, worth about a 100euro off to you! I got mine for 1120 or something, its a nice laptop for the money!

my ibook lasts for 4 hours with just surfing, if you use a mouse, it'll go down etc etc. I can watch a dvd movie on the battery easily and still do more. Its a fantastic machine, buy it!
