Im pretty new to the online poker scene playing Texas Holdem for low stakes on paddypower and holding my own so far.

I was wondering if there are any poker lessons/clinics/courses in Dublin ?

Would also like to know of any books on the subject which anyone would recommend in terms of trying to become a better player ...

The fitz have a poke school that they run every so often, but to be honest the best way to learn is to play and play some more. But is you are set on a course/school ring the fitz and I am sure they will fill you in.

As for books...Doyle Brunson's Super System is about the best. The Late Night Poker one is also good.

I found hold em excellence by Lou Krieger to be well worth a read.
Donal macaongusa will give you lessons at no charge on the assumption you play in pokerevents tournaments. There is a Irish poker tour satellite in The Red cow hotel next Wednesday, He will be able to give you 20mins to 30 mins lesson.
Donal is a full time player that plys his trade in Ireland and Europe(mostly Paris). If you are interested e-mail info@pokerevents.ie

We have these in Hodges Figgis or are restocking them in the next few days.

Super System 2 - Brunson - well worth a read

Harrington on hold'em - a lot of good reviews, still havent read it

Zen and the art of poker - this is my bible, find out why yourself

TJ Cloutier titles - very enjoyable

Sklansky titles - not my cup of tea, worth reading, then put aside and play

The point is come in and make up your own mind.

I'll be in the office this week so you can ask for me on the phone and I'll pick out out a few if necessary. I won't be around then for a few weeks.

    Cheers Des.

I always say the first book you should read is Theory of Poker so I'll say it again. Super System 'aint bad but I think you need some proper theory before looking up Doyles stuff.
I got Harrington's book in Hodges Figgis on Saturday and so far it's a great book. I have alot of respect for his game and he gets his ideas across well.

    Errigal,
Theres a new poker club being set up, information available here

    http://www.poker.ie/index.php?option=com_events&Itemid=124&task=view_detail&agid=119

They have low buy-ins, and are going to focus on the learning element aswell, so it should be worth a look.

How can I hate someone who loves David Hasselhoff. It's not physically possible! Try it and see! Concentrate.... no it's not happening.

Anyway, the Harrington's sold out in 2 days, I have another dozen copies coming in from the US about mid week or Saturday possibly.
Ask for a Mark on 1st floor he will tell you. He's a player, good but biblically unlucky on the final table. Also grumpy, tell him I said so. Or you can ask for me. I'll be until Saturday afternoon then gone for a week.

Do look at Zen and the art of poker. I have every book under the sun but this is the only one I consider genuinely indispensible, just for the attitude rather than for the maths advice etc.

Best of luck, Up David Hoff (not literally of course)
    So long chum.....ps, D

ye I've read ith by matt hilger. its a very good book but it is a very long, boring, difficult read. he goes into lots of detail on how to play every hand in almost every situation. My advice to beginners is to read and re-read and re-read again theory of poker by Sklansy and winning low limit hold'em by lee jones. the first is imo the most important book on poker out there, it is a difficult read but the information is indespensible. the second is a very short easy read and does exactly what it says on the tin. it is in my opinion by far the best beginners book out there on how to play the specific hands.

A word of warning to beginners. many advise reading super system but I'd advise to stay away from this book until you fully understand the basics. it is geared more to high stakes poker and people who read it and dont fully understand the concepts could go broke very easily.

By the way errigal dont be fooled into thinking matt hilgers ith gives any magical advice about online poker. really the internet part in the title is just a catch to get people to buy the book. Theres very little internet specific advice in their. its basically just a poker book
